13 claims: 5 independent, 8 dependent

  1. 1
A polypeptide selected from the group consisting of:a. a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence wherein the amino acid sequence consists of the sequence of SEQ ID NO:8 or an amino acid sequence that differs from SEQ ID NO:8 at no more than five amino acid positions;b. a polypeptide produced by the expression in a mammalian cell of the nucleic acid of SEQ ID NO: 4 or a nucleic acid that hybridizes under stringent condition to the complement thereof;c. a polypeptide produced by the expression in a mammalian cell of the nucleic acid of SEQ ID NO:6 or a nucleic acid that hybridizes under stringent conditions to the complement thereof.
  2. 4
The polypeptide of any one of claims 1-3, wherein the polypeptide is covalently associated with a second polypeptide to form a homodimer.
  3. 5
A polypeptide comprising a portion derived from ActRIIB and one or more heterologous portions, wherein the portion derived from ActRIIB comprises an amino acid sequence consisting of the sequence of amino acids 25-131 of SEQ ID NO:1 or an amino acid sequence that differs from the sequence of amino acids 25-131 of SEQ ID NO:1 at no more than five amino acid positions.
  4. 9
The polypeptide of any one of claims 5-8, wherein the portion derived from ActRIIB comprises an amino acid sequence consisting of the sequence of amino acids 25-131 of SEQ ID NO:1
  5. 10
A pharmaceutical preparation comprising the polypeptide of any one of claims 1-9.
