  1. 1
A method for producing a package of one or more absorbent articles, the method comprising:providing a carrier (310) movably connected with a track (312);assembling absorbent articles (102) with an assembly line (302);advancing the absorbent articles (102) from the assembly line (302) along a first path (304) toward a first packaging apparatus (306);diverting an absorbent article (102') from the first path (304) to a second path (308);advancing the diverted absorbent article (102') along the second path (308);transferring the diverted absorbent article (102') from the second path (308) to the carrier (310) in a receiving zone (314);characterized in that the method further comprises: moving the carrier (310) along the track (312) with a linear synchronous motor (324) from the receiving zone (314) to a drop off zone (316);transferring the diverted absorbent article (102') from the carrier (310) in the drop off zone (316) to a second packaging apparatus (318);moving the carrier (310) along the track (312) with the linear synchronous motor (324) from the drop off zone (316) to the receiving zone (314);connecting the carrier with a drive mechanism (342) upon entering the receiving zone (314) wherein the drive mechanism (342) comprises a screw (344) rotatably driven by a motor (346) and threadedly engageable with the carrier (310);moving the carrier (310) through the receiving zone (314) with the drive mechanism (342);intermittently accelerating and decelerating the carrier (310) on the track (312) with the drive mechanism (342) through the receiving zone (314);disconnecting the drive mechanism (342) from the carrier (310) upon exiting the receiving zone (314);deactivating motive forces applied to the carrier (310) from the linear synchronous motor (324) in the receiving zone (314);further comprising: connecting the carrier (310) with the drive mechanism (342) upon entering the drop off zone (316);moving the carrier (310) through the drop off zone (316) with the drive mechanism (342);intermittently accelerating and decelerating the carrier (310) on the track (312) with the drive mechanism (342) through the drop off zone (316);and disconnecting the drive mechanism (342) from the carrier (310) upon exiting the drop off zone (316).
  2. 3
The method according to either of the preceding claims, wherein the linear synchronous motor (324) comprises a coil (326) connected with the track (312) and a permanent magnet (328) connected with the carrier (310).
  3. 5
The method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the carrier (310) comprises wheels (322) rollingly engaged with the track (312).
  4. 6
The method according to any of the preceding claims, further comprising placing the diverted absorbent article (102') into a package (106) together with a second absorbent article (102').
