  1. 1
A powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) (100), comprising:a power source (136);an ambient gas module (110) including a first housing and a first inlet (122) configured to receive an ambient gas;a gas filter (120) in fluid communication with the first inlet (122) and configured to filter the ambient gas;a blower (111) configured to boost at least one of a flow rate or a pressure of the ambient gas entering and/or exiting the gas filter (120);a non-ambient gas module (150) including a second housing and a second inlet (152) that is independent from the first inlet (122) and configured to receive a non-ambient gas;a first outlet (156) configured to selectively provide a breathing gas to a user from at least one of the ambient gas or the non-ambient gas;and a switching device (220) configured to select between the first inlet (122) and the second inlet (152) as a source of the breathing gas, wherein the gas filter (120), the ambient gas module (110), the non-ambient gas module (150), and the power source (136) are configured to be joined together in an integral unit, and wherein the respirator (100) is modular and configured to be operable in a plurality of different assemblies including an ambient gas-only assembly in which the non-ambient gas module (150) is entirely removed from the integral unit;characterized in that the respirator (100) further comprises a control module (130) configured to control an ambient gas module setting and a non-ambient gas module setting, the control module (130) including a breathing hose adapter (162) in fluid communication with the first outlet (156), and a mounting interface configured to join directly to the blower (111) in the ambient gas-only assembly and directly to the non-ambient gas module (150) in a combination ambient and non-ambient gas assembly, wherein the housing of the non-ambient gas module is configured to mount the non-ambient gas module (150) between the blower (111) and the control module (130) in the combination ambient and non-ambient gas assembly.
  2. 6
The respirator (100) of any one of claims 1, 2, or 3, wherein the respirator (100) is configured to operate via the first inlet (122) without the second inlet (152) being connected to a non-ambient gas source, and to operate via the second inlet (152) without using the blower (111) or the gas filter (120).
  3. 7
The respirator (100) of any one of claims 1, 2, or 3, wherein the blower (111) includes a centrifugal impeller (116) configured to force the ambient gas through the gas filter (120).
  4. 8
The respirator (100) of any one of claims 1, 3, 4, or 5, wherein the second inlet (152) is configured to attach to at least one of a pressurized air tank, a pressurized oxygen tank, or a gas line.
  5. 9
The respirator (100) of any one of claims 1, 2, or 3, further comprising a breathing tube (160) in fluid communication with the first outlet (156), a breathing mask (400) connected to the breathing tube (160) via a breathing tube to breathing mask interface (166), and an indicator disposed proximate to the breathing tube to breathing mask interface (166), the indicator including at least one of a visual warning indicator, an audio warning indicator, or a haptic warning indicator.
  6. 13
The respirator (100) of any one of claims 1, 2, or 5, further comprising a remote control (300) configured to control at least one of a power fan speed and user interface (Ul) settings, and including at least one of a battery warning indicator, a clog warning indicator, an SCBA setting indicator, a PAPR setting indicator, an SCBA mode setting, or a PAPR mode setting.
  7. 15
The respirator (100) of any of claims 1, 2, or 3, further comprising:a heads-up display (HUD) (500) including a visual warning indicator that is visible to a user;and a remote control (300) configured to control an ambient gas module setting and a non-ambient gas module setting, wherein the HUD (500) and the remote control (300) share a common connection point (132) to the respirator (100) such that both may be integrated through a single electrical connector to the respirator system.
