12 claims: 7 independent, 5 dependent

  1. 1
A resuscitation system for resuscitating a patient, comprising:at least two electrical therapy electrodes (12, 14) adapted to be worn by the patient for extended periods of time;circuitry for monitoring the ECG (177) of the patient;an activity sensor (76) adapted to be worn by the patient and capable of providing an output from which the patient's current activity can be estimated;and at least one processor configured for estimating the patient's current activity by analyzing the output of the activity sensor, wherein the processor is configured for estimating whether the patient is moving, analyzing the ECG of the patient, and determining whether electrical therapy should be delivered to the electrodes, and an energy delivery unit (172, 173, 174) connected to the defibrillation electrodes by one or more cables configured to carry the defibrillation pulses to the at least two therapy electrodes, characterized in that the processor is further configured for estimating the orientation of the patient to determine whether the patient is lying on his back.
  2. 6
The resuscitation system of any of claims 1-5, wherein the processor is configured for determining the patient to be moving based on one or more thresholds of at least one of velocity and displacement.
  3. 7
The resuscitation system of any of claims 1-6, wherein the resuscitation system includes a speaker (182) for issuing spoken prompts to the patient, and the processor decides on the nature of the spoken prompt based on the estimated current activity of the patient.
  4. 8
The resuscitation system of any of claims 1-7, further comprising a unit configured to be worn by the patient for long term monitoring the patient's cardiac condition, the unit comprising the at least two electrical therapy electrodes.
  5. 10
The resuscitation system of either claim 8 or 9, wherein the unit further comprises the activity sensor.
  6. 11
The resuscitation system of any of claims 1-10, wherein the resuscitation system is configured to monitor physiological signals other than ECG of the patient.
  7. 12
A method performed by the resuscitation system of claims 1-11, whereinthe method comprises, in the resuscitation system for resuscitating a patient, monitoring the ECG of the patient using the circuitry for monitoring the ECG and, by the at least one processor, estimating the patient's current activity by analyzing the output of the activity sensor adapted to be worn by the patient, wherein said estimating the patient's current activity comprises estimating whether the patient is moving and estimating the orientation of the patient to determine whether the patient is lying on their back, and by the at least one processor, analyzing the ECG of the patient, and determining whether electrical therapy should be delivered to the electrodes.
