  1. 1
A system to improve timestamp transition resolution associated with watermarks in media, the system comprising:a watermark detector (145) to detect the watermarks (200);a decoder (310) to decode timestamps in respective ones of the watermarks (200);and a timestamp transition resolution enhancer (150) to: estimate a first transition window (410) indicative of a transition between a first time period of the media to a second time period of the media based on a first one of the timestamps and a second one of the timestamps;the timestamp transition resolution enhancer (150) including a resolution comparator (320) comparing the first transition window (410) to a threshold time duration of a desired level of resolution to determine if the first transition window (410) meets the threshold time duration;and when the first transition window (410) does not meet the threshold time duration, the timestamp transition resolution enhancer (150) is to estimate a second transition window (415) indicative of a transition between the second time period and a third time period based on the second timestamp and a third one of the timestamps;determine a first mapped transition window (425) based on an intersection of the first transition window (410) and the second transition window (415);and set the first mapped transition window (425) as a reference time transition window for subsequent time periods.
  2. 7
The system of any of claims 1-6, wherein respective ones of the time periods have minute durations and the threshold is about five seconds.
  3. 8
The system of any of claims 1-6, wherein the first transition window is identified when a first timestamp in a first watermark (200) is different than a second timestamp in a second watermark (200).
  4. 9
A method to improve timestamp transition resolution associated with watermarks in media, the method comprising:estimating a first transition window (410) indicative of a transition between a first time period of the media to a second time period of the media based on a first timestamp of a first watermark and a second timestamp of a second watermark;determining, by comparing the first transition window (410) to a threshold time duration of a desired level of resolution, if the first transition window (410) meets the threshold time duration, estimating, when the first transition window does not satisfy the threshold time duration, a second transition window (415) indicative of a transition between the second time period and a third time period based on the second timestamp and a third timestamp;determining a first mapped transition window based on an intersection of the first transition window (410) and the second transition window (415);and setting the first mapped transition window as the reference time transition window for subsequent time periods.
  5. 14
The method of any of claims 9-13, further including:comparing a first timestamp in a first watermark and a second time stamp in a second watermark;and identifying the first transition window when the first timestamp and the second timestamp are different.
  6. 15
A machine-readable storage medium comprising machine-readable instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to at least perform the method of any of claims 9-14.
