12 claims: 11 independent, 1 dependent

  1. 1
An implantable system (100) for advancing a cochlear electrode into cochlea, the system, comprising;a hollow sheath (150) having a proximal end (152) and a distal end (156), wherein the hollow sheath (150) is configured to house the cochlear electrode;a drive assembly (110) comprising;a main body (120), wherein the main body (120) has a sheath anchor element (162) connected to the proximal end (152) of the hollow sheath (150);and a motor (122) inside the main body (120), wherein the motor (122) drives the cochlear electrode to move inside the hollow sheath (150);and an electrical stimulator for stimulating said cochlear electrode.
  2. 3
The implantable system (100) of claims 1 or 2, wherein the motor (122) is a piezoelectric motor or a step motor.
  3. 4
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-3, further comprising a guide wire (630) configured to push the electrode.
  4. 5
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-4, further comprising a drive wheel (128) driven by the motor (122).
  5. 6
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-5, wherein the main body (120) has a housing partition (132) configured to store a portion of said cochlear electrode.
  6. 7
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-6, wherein the main body (120) further comprises an energy source that can be charged wirelessly.
  7. 8
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-7, wherein the main body (120) further comprises a circuit board (140).
  8. 9
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-8, further comprising a wireless controller (190) configured to control the motor (122).
  9. 10
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-9, wherein the wireless controller (190) charges said energy source wirelessly.
  10. 11
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-10, wherein the hollow sheath (150) further has a sealable tip at a terminal end of the distal end of the hollow sheath (150), wherein the sealable tip has a slit in an outer surface of the sealable tip.
  11. 12
The implantable system (100) of any one of claims 1-11, wherein the position sensor (124) is configured to connect to a pulley wheel (130) with a textured surface.
