  1. 1
A suturing apparatus (100) for suturing biological tissue (20A, 20B), the suturing apparatus (100) comprising:at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) configured to transition between an open configuration and a closed configuration, wherein the at least one pair of grasping arms (130, 140) in the closed configuration is configured to grasp tissue (20A, 20B) to be sutured therebetween with a first (130) of the grasping arms being provided on a first side of the tissue (20A, 20B) and a second (140) of the grasping arms being positioned on a second side of the tissue (20A, 20B) opposite the first side, wherein the second grasping (140) arm comprises at least one suture mount (144) configured to hold a portion of a suture on the second side of the tissue (20A, 20B;at least one needle (160) configured to be advanced from the first side of the tissue (20A, 20B) and through the grasped tissue (20A, 20B) when the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) grasps the tissue (20A, 20B) to be sutured therebetween, the at least one needle (160) configured to catch a portion of suture held by the at least one suture mount (144) on the second side of the tissue (20A, 20B) and carry the portion of suture back through the grasped tissue (20A, 20B) to the first side of the grasped tissue (20A, 20B);and a handle (120) operably connected to the tissue grasping arms (130, 140) and the at least one needle (160) to advance the at least one needle (160) relative to the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130,140);and an elongate housing (110) having a proximal end (102) coupled to the handle (120) and a distal end (103) coupled to or incorporating the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130,140), characterized in that the distal tips of the first and the second tissue grasping arms (130,140) are adapted to move away from each other and from the longitudinal axis of the elongate housing (110) in order to transition to the open configuration.
  2. 2
The suturing apparatus (100) of Claim 1, wherein the suturing apparatus (100) is configured for suturing an anatomical valve (20A, 20B).
  3. 3
The suturing apparatus (100) of Claim 1 or 2, wherein the first and second grasping arms (130, 140) extend distally from a distal end of the elongate housing (110).
  4. 4
The suturing apparatus (100) of Claim 3, comprising at least two needles (160) and further comprising at least two needle lumens (112) extending along a length of at least a portion of the elongate housing (110).
  5. 5
The suturing apparatus (100) of Claim 4, wherein each of the at least two needle lumens (112) includes a needle guide track (113), the needle guide track (113) comprising an angled surface extending toward a central longitudinal axis of the elongate housing (110) in a proximal to distal direction.
  6. 6
The suturing apparatus (100) of any of Claims 1-5, wherein the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) is configured to hold the tissue (20A, 20B) parallel or perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the suturing apparatus (100).
  7. 7
The suturing apparatus (100) of any of Claims 1-6, wherein the first (130) of the tissue grasping arms is dimensioned to allow access to the at least one suture mount (144) of the second (140) of the tissue grasping arms.
  8. 8
The suturing apparatus (100) of any of Claims 1-7, wherein the at least one suture mount (144) comprises a lumen slanted at an angle such that a portion of the at least one needle (160) and the lumen of the at least one suture mount (144) are substantially aligned when the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) are in the closed configuration.
  9. 9
The suturing apparatus (100) of any of Claims 1-8, wherein the handle comprises a switch operably connected to the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) and configured to cause the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) to transition between the open and closed configurations.
  10. 10
The suturing apparatus (100) of any of Claims 1-9, wherein the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) further comprises a tissue-gripping configuration, wherein a distance between the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) is smaller than the distance when the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140) are in the closed configuration so as to form a tighter grip on the tissue (20A, 20B) between the at least one pair of tissue grasping arms (130, 140).
  11. 11
