Summary
The instant disclosure teaches a mobile handheld device such as a mobile computer and/or a tablet computer and/or a mobile phone and/or a smart mobile phone. The mobile handheld device provides functionality to read an identity of an appliance such as an automation appliance, a control appliance, a heating, ventilation, air-conditioning appliance, a smart valve appliance, and/or a hazard detection appliance. The identity may, by way of non-limiting example, be a serial number and/or a media access control address of a network adaptor and/or a cryptographic key. Once the identity key is retrieved, the mobile handheld device loads a configuration data set associated with the identity key from a memory of the mobile handheld device. The mobile handheld device also checks for update data and updates the configuration data set accordingly.
The present disclosure provides a mobile handheld device comprising: at least one first communication interface configured to receive from an appliance an identity key indicative of an identity of the appliance; at least one second communication interface configured for bidirectional communication with a remote server; a display; a memory storing an index table, the index table determining if the memory stores a configuration data set associated with an index value; a processor communicatively coupled to the at least one first communication interface, and to the at least one second communication interface, and to the memory, and to the display, the processor being configured to: receive an update data set indicative of an updated set of configuration data via the at least one second communication interface; receive an identity key indicative of the identity of the appliance via the at least one first communication interface; produce an index value from the received identity key; determine from the index table if the memory stores a configuration data set associated with the index value; if the memory stores a configuration data set associated with the index value: load the configuration data set associated with the index value from the memory; produce a graphics signal as a function of the configuration data set and of the update data set; and transmit the graphics signal to the display.
The remote server is advantageously located remotely from the mobile handheld device.
The memory advantageously is a memory readable by the processor. It is envisaged that the memory is a non-volatile memory. It is also envisaged that the memory is a non-volatile memory with built-in encryption. That is, any data stored on the memory needs to be deciphered using a cryptographic key. Also, any data are not readily accessible when the memory is illicitly removed from the mobile handheld device. Encrypted memory confers advantages in terms of improved security.
According to an aspect, the memory stores the index table, the index table determining if the memory stores a configuration data set associated with a predetermined index value. The memory is preferably also configured to store at least one configuration data set. The index table can, by way of non-limiting example, be a lookup table.
In an embodiment, the graphics signal comprises information on a dashboard and/or on a plant view of the appliance. Advantageously, the configuration data set comprises information on a dashboard and/or on a plant view of the appliance. Ideally, the update data set also comprises information on a dashboard and/or on a plant view of the appliance.
The at least one first communication interface is preferably different from the at least one second communication interface.
According to an aspect, the configuration data set comprises (current, up-to-date) configuration data associated with and/or for the appliance. According to another aspect, the update data set comprises (updated) configuration data associated with and/or for the appliance.
According to another aspect, the mobile handheld device also comprises at least one driver unit, the at least one driver unit being communicatively coupled to the display, the processor being communicatively coupled to the driver unit, the processor being configured to: transmit the graphics signal to the display via the at least one driver unit.

According to an aspect, the processor of a mobile handheld device according to the instant disclosure is configured to: produce a revised configuration data set from the update data set; and store the revised configuration data set in the memory. A revised configuration data set based on the update data set confers the advantage of less volatile revised data sets.
In an embodiment, the processor of a mobile handheld device according to the instant disclosure is configured to: produce a current version key from the loaded configuration data set; produce an update version key from the update data set; compare the current version key to the update version key; determine if the update version key is newer than the current version key; if the update version key is newer than the current version key: produce a revised configuration data set from the update data set; and store the revised configuration data set in the memory. A comparison between versions ensures that the mobile handheld device deploys the latest version.
The current version key produced from the loaded configuration data set can, by way of non-limiting example, be a legacy version key.
Ideally, the processor is also configured to delete the loaded (obsolete) configuration data set from the memory thereby replacing the loaded (obsolete) configuration data set with the revised configuration data set. Deletion of obsolete datasets confers benefits in terms of reduced memory usage.
Advantageously, the processor is also configured to update the index table such that the revised configuration data set replaces the loaded (obsolete) configuration data set. In other words, the processor is configured to update the index table such that the revised configuration data set (eventually) becomes the loaded configuration data set. It is also envisaged that the processor is configured to store the updated index table in the memory. An updated index table confers advantages since the mobile handheld device can readily access information.
It is envisaged that the processor of a mobile handheld device according to the instant disclosure is configured to: query via the at least one second communication interface the remote server about availability of an update data set indicative of an updated configuration data set; and if the update data set is available: receive the update data set from the remote server via the at least one second communication interface.
