Mechanical locking system for floor panels

Abstract

There is disclosed floor panels provided with a locking system for vertical and/or horizontal locking of a first edge (1) and a second edge (1') of adjacent floor panels comprising a plastic wear layer (3) and one or several plastic core layers (5a, 5b). One plastic core layer (5b) comprises several essentially vertical flexing grooves (19) with a vertical extension of at least about one third of a core thickness of the plastic core layer (5b).

15 claims: 10 independent, 5 dependent

  1. 1
Floor panels provided with a locking system for vertical and/or horizontal locking of a first edge (1) and a second edge (1') of adjacent floor panels, the adjacent floor panels comprising a plastic wear layer (3) and one or several plastic core layers (5a, 5b), wherein one plastic core layer (5b) comprises several essentially vertical flexing grooves (19) with a vertical extension of at least about one third of a core thickness of the plastic core layer (5b).
  2. 4
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the vertical flexing grooves (19) are essentially parallel with long edges of the floor panels and have a length that is smaller than a distance between the locking systems on short edges of the floor panels.
  3. 5
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the vertical flexing grooves (19) are formed at a rear side of the plastic core layer (5b) .
  4. 7
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein said plastic wear layers (3) and said one or several plastic core layers (5a, 5b) comprise polyvinyl chloride, PVC.
  5. 8
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein said one or several plastic core layers (5a, 5b) comprise fillers.
  6. 9
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the floor panels comprise one or several layers of glass fibre.
  7. 10
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the vertical flexing grooves are arranged in sets provided along a longitudinal direction of the floor panels, and wherein said one plastic core layer comprises portions that extend continuously in a transverse direction between long edges of the floor panels and between adjacent sets of vertical flexing grooves.
  8. 12
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the vertical flexing grooves (19) are discontinuous.
  9. 13
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the vertical flexing grooves (19) are continuous.
  10. 14
The floor panels as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein said locking system comprises a tongue (10) configured to cooperate with a tongue groove (9) in a locked position, and a strip (6) provided with a locking element (8) at the first edge (1), the locking element (8) being configured to cooperate with a downwardly open locking groove (14) in a locked position, the downwardly open locking groove (14) being formed in the second edge (1').
