Continuous, semicontinuous and batch methods for treating liquids and manufacturing certain constituents (e.g., nanoparticles) in liquids, apparatuses and nanoparticles and nanoparticle/liquid solution(s) and colloids resulting therefrom

Abstract

This invention relates generally to novel methods and novel devices for the continuous manufacture of gold-based nanoparticles, microparticles and nanoparticle/liquid solution(s) (e.g., colloids). The nanoparticles are formed by flowing water containing a processing enhancer through a trough, and contacting the liquid with at least two sets of submerged gold electrodes.

  1. 1
A continuous or semi-continuous process for forming gold-based nanoparticles in at least one flowing liquid [3], said flowing liquid comprising water and a processing enhancer, said process comprising the steps of:flowing the at least one liquid [3] through at least one trough member [30];contacting at least one first set of submerged electrodes [5a, 5a'] comprising gold with said liquid [3], and contacting at least one second set of submerged electrodes [5b, 5b';...5g, 5g'] comprising gold with said liquid [3];and providing a power source between each of said at least one first set of submerged electrodes and between each of said at least one second set of submerged electrodes to cause at least one electrochemical reaction to occur at each of said at least one set of electrodes [5a, 5a';5b, 5b';...5g, 5g'] to produce gold-based nanoparticles within said liquid.
