A toilet (4000) configured to receive a supply of water, the toilet comprising:a tank (4003) configured to hold the water, the tank (4003) having a vent hole (4005);a bowl (4004) fluidly connected to the tank (4003) through a fluid channel;and an integrated flush valve and ventilation system (4001) comprising: a valve body (4020) fluidly connecting the tank (4003) and the fluid channel;a housing (4010) disposed in the tank (4003) and having a bore (4021) that is in fluid communication with the fluid channel at a first end of the housing (4010);a fan (4011) disposed in the bore (4021) and operable in at least one of a first mode or a second mode;a motor (4012) configured to rotate the fan (4011) in at least one of the first mode or the second mode;and a vent (4014) having an inlet coupled to a second end of the housing (4010) and in fluid communication with the bore (4021), the vent (4014) having an outlet that is in fluid communication with the vent hole (4005) in the tank (4003);wherein in the first mode, the fan (4011) moves air from the bowl (4004) to the vent (4014), through the bore (4021) and the fluid channel, to be vented through the vent hole (4005) in the tank (4003);characterized in that the housing (4010) is moveable relative to the valve body (4020) during a flush cycle to pass the water from the tank (4003) into the bowl (4004) through the fluid channel;the motor (4012) is disposed in the bore (4021);and in the second mode, the fan (4011) moves air from outside the tank (4003) to the bowl (4004), the air moving thereby through the vent hole (4005), the bore (4021) and the fluid channel.
  2. 2
The toilet (4000) of Claim 1, wherein the fan (4011) is operable in both the first mode and the second mode.
  3. 3
The toilet (4000) of Claim 1 or Claim 2, further comprising a filter (4013) comprising a filtering material, wherein the filter (4013) is disposed in either the bore (4021) or the vent (4014) to filter fluid moving across the filter (4013) between the vent (4014) and the bowl (4004).
  4. 4
The toilet (4000) of Claim 3, wherein the filtering material comprises at least one of a zeolite, a charcoal, or a hydroxyl.
  5. 5
The toilet (4000) of Claim 3, wherein the filter (4013) is disposed in the inlet of the vent (4014) and the filter (4013) is sized to occupy the entire cross-section of a vent passage extending between the inlet of the vent (4014) and the outlet of the vent (4014), and wherein the integrated flush valve and ventilation system (4001) further comprises a cap that is coupled to the second end of the housing (4010), and wherein the vent (4014) couples directly to the cap to seal the flow of fluid between the vent (4014) and the housing (4010).
  6. 6
The toilet (4000) of Claim 3, wherein the filter is disposed in the bore (4021) of the housing (4010).
  7. 7
The toilet (4000) of any one of Claims 1-6, wherein the housing (4010) is a buoyant element.
  8. 8
The toilet (4000) of any one of Claims 1-7, further comprising a power source that supplies electric power to the motor (4012), wherein the power source includes a battery that is located in the tank (4003) above a water line of the water housed in the tank (4003).
  9. 9
The toilet (4000) of any one of Claims 1-8, further comprising a sensing system comprising a VOC sensor that is located in or around the bowl (4004) that detects organics, wherein at least one of the first mode or the second mode is activated based on a detection by the VOC sensor.
  10. 10
The toilet (4000) of Claim 9, wherein the VOC sensor is located in or on a rim of the toilet that is above the bowl (4004).
  11. 11
The toilet (4000) of Claim 9, further comprising a seat assembly comprising a seat and a seat cover each of which is independently rotatable relative to the bowl (4004), wherein the VOC sensor is located in or on the seat assembly.
  12. 12
The toilet of Claim 11, wherein the VOC sensor is located in or on the seat cover in a central portion such that the VOC sensor detects organics in the bowl (4004) through an opening in the seat in a closed position of the seat and the seat cover.
  13. 13
The toilet (4000) of Claim 11 or Claim 12, wherein the sensing system further comprises:a user detection sensor that is configured to detect the presence of a user seated on the seat;wherein the user detection sensor activates at least one of a flush cycle of the toilet (4000) or the fan (4011) to operate in the first mode or the second mode after the user is no longer seated on the seat;and wherein the user detection sensor is located in or on the seat cover to detect the user seated on the seat in an open position of the seat cover.
