A system (100) for augmenting expulsive uterine forces towards a cervical canal during delivery of a fetus from a uterus, the system comprising:a medical balloon apparatus (102) having a balloon body (112) configured to be positioned in the uterus, the balloon body (112) configured to transition between a compacted state and an expanded state;a sensor configured to obtain signals indicative of intrinsic uterine contractions;and a controller (104) coupled to the medical balloon apparatus (112) and the sensor and configured to: monitor an intrinsic uterine contraction by being further configured to detect at least one of an onset of an intrinsic uterine contraction, an increase in uterine contraction forces, and a decrease in uterine contraction forces based on the obtained signals;and mediate a force generated via the balloon body (112) during the intrinsic uterine contraction, wherein the force is directed toward the cervical canal and augments natural expulsive uterine forces, wherein the controller (104) is configured to mediate the force by being further configured to: deliver an agent (124) to the balloon body (112) to at least partially expand the balloon body (112) toward the cervical canal and into contact with the fetus upon either of a detection of an onset of an intrinsic uterine contraction, or an increase in uterine contraction forces, and discharge an agent (124) from the balloon body (112) to at least partially collapse the balloon body (112) away from the fetus and the cervical canal upon a detection of a decrease in uterine contraction forces.
