  1. 1
An apparatus comprising:a housing (105) having a bottom wall (106), a side wall (108) and an open top, the housing (105) to receive a container (104), the container (104) comprising a key (202) and having liquid to be used in an automated diagnostic analyzer;a probe (400) extending upward from the bottom wall (106) toward the open top, the probe (400) to drain the liquid from the container (104) when the probe (400) is inserted into the container (104);said apparatus characterised in that it comprises a sliding lock (414) slidably disposed within the housing (105), the sliding lock (414) comprising: an engagement surface (416);an opening (418) in the engagement surface (416) to receive the probe (400) therethrough when the sliding lock (414) is moved from a first position in which the engagement surface (416) is above a tip of the probe (400) to a second position in which the engagement surface (416) is below the tip of the probe (400);and a key slot (446) in the engagement surface (416);and a lockout (422) located below the engagement surface (416) of the sliding lock (414) releaseably coupled to the sliding lock (414), the lockout (422) movable between a locked position in which the sliding lock (414) is prevented from moving in the housing (105) and an unlocked position in which the sliding lock (414) is movable in the housing (105), wherein the key slot (446) is to receive a key (202) of the container (104) that is inserted into the housing (105) to move the lockout (422) from the locked position to the unlocked position.
  2. 11
A method comprising:inserting a container (104) with a cap (200) having a key ring (202) into a cradle (102), the cradle comprising: a housing (105);a probe (400) disposed in the housing (105);a sliding lock (414) slidably disposed in the housing (105), the sliding lock (414) having (1) an engagement surface (416), (2) an opening (418) in the engagement surface (416) to receive the probe (400) therethrough when the sliding lock (414) is moved from a first position in which the engagement surface (416) is above a tip of the probe (400) to a second position in which the engagement surface (416) is below the tip of the probe (400), and (3) a key slot (446) in the engagement surface (416);and a lockout (422) located below the engagement surface (416) of the sliding lock (414) releaseably coupled to the sliding lock (414);moving the container (104) into the cradle (102), wherein, if the key ring (202) matches the key slot (446), the lockout (422) is moved between a locked position in which the sliding lock (414) is prevented from moving in the housing (105) and an unlocked position in which the sliding lock (414) is movable in the housing (105) to the second position;coupling the container (104) in the cradle (102);and draining the contents of the container (104) via the probe (400).
