12 claims: 3 independent, 9 dependent

  1. 1
An apparatus comprising:a hand-held syringe housing comprising a proximal end and a discharge end;a magnet retention ring comprising at least one magnet disposed on an outer surface of the syringe housing, proximate the proximal end;a plunger comprising a shaft, wherein the plunger is slidably received within and alongan axis of the handheld syringe housing between a first position and a second position;a plurality of Hall sensors disposed within the shaft;and wherein the at least one magnet of the magnet retention ring is configured to form a magnetic field through which the shaft passes during use, and wherein the plunger is configured to allow rotational movement about the axis, as the at least one of the plurality of Hall sensors, in use, passes through the magnetic field.
  2. 6
An apparatus comprising:a hand-held syringe housing defining an axis;a plunger slidably disposed along the axis within the hand-held syringe housing, wherein the plunger and hand-held syringe housing are constructed so as to allow rotation of the plunger rotatably mounted within the hand-held syringe housing during use;a plurality of Hall sensors disposed along the plunger;a plurality of magnets disposed about the axis, such that a movement of the plunger along the axis moves at least one of the plurality of Hall sensors through a substantially circular magnetic field created by the plurality of magnets.
  3. 12
The apparatus of claim-6, wherein the plurality of magnets is secured directly to the handheld syringe housing.
