  1. 1
A computer-implemented method (200, 500) executed by one or more processors, the method comprising:receiving (205, 505), by a network management system (120) from a client (130a-c), a first request for a network resource (180), the first request including an original location of the network resource (180);determining (510), by a redirect engine (122) at the network management system (120), that the request is to be redirected to a scanning system (190), wherein the requested network resource is to be analyzed for suitability by the scanning system (190) before making the requested network resource available to the client (130a-c);the method characterized by the further steps of: in response to determining that the request is to be redirected, sending (215, 515) a redirect response, by the redirect engine (122) at the network management system (120) to the client (130a-c), the redirect response including a modified location for the network resource (180) different than the original location, wherein the modified location references the original location and a location of the scanning system (190);receiving (220, 520), by the scanning system (190) from the client (130a-c), a second request for the network resource (180), the second request including the modified location;and in response to receiving from the client (130a-c) the second request for the network resource (180), performing, by the scanning system (190), a suitability analysis on the network resource to determine whether to provide the requested network resource (180) to the client (130a-c), wherein the suitability analysis is performed by i) retrieving (230, 525) the network resource (180) from the original location, ii) applying (530) one or more objective criteria to determine (235, 240) whether the retrieved network resource is suitable to send to the client (130a-c), wherein determining (240) that the retrieved network resource is suitable to send to the client includes executing the retrieved network resource in a virtual environment, and wherein the determination is based at least in part on an observed behavior of the retrieved network resource during execution, and iii) in response to determining (240Y) that the retrieved network resource is suitable, sending (250, 535) the retrieved network resource to the client (130a-c).
  2. 3
The method of claims 1 or 2, wherein the network resource (180) is a first network resource, the method (200) further comprising:receiving (205), by the network management system (120), a first request for a second network resource different than the first network resource from the client (130a-c), the first request for the second network resource including an original location for the second network resource;sending (215) a redirect response, by the network management system (120) to the client (130a-c), including a modified location for the second network resource;receiving (220), by the scanning system (190), a second request for the second network resource from the client (130a-c), the second request for the second network resource including the modified location;in response to receiving the second request for the second network resource from the client (130a-c): determining (240N), by the scanning system (190), that the retrieved second network resource is not suitable to send to the client (130a-c);and sending (245) an indication, by the scanning system (190) to the client (130a-c), that the second network resource is not suitable.
  3. 4
The method of any of claims 1-3, wherein receiving the first request for the network resource includes receiving an Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) GET request, and the original location for the network resource includes a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the network resource, wherein optionally sending the redirect response to the client includes sending an HTTP redirect message to the client, and the modified location includes a URL associated with an analysis server and the URL for the network resource.
  4. 5
The method of any of claims 1-4, wherein determining that the response to the first request is to be analyzed includes determining that a domain name associated with the network resource is included in a list of domain names to be analyzed.
  5. 6
The method of any of claims 1-5, wherein determining that the response to the first request is to be analyzed is based at least in part on a domain name included in the original location for the network resource.
  6. 7
The method of any of claims 1-6, wherein determining that the response to the first request is to be analyzed is based at least in part on a resource type associated with the network resource.
  7. 10
The method of any of claims 1-9, wherein determining that the response to the first request is to be analyzed is based at least in part on a category associated with the network resource.
  8. 11
The method of any of claims 1-10, wherein the client is a first client (130a), the method (300) further comprising:receiving (305), by the network management system (120), a third request for the network resource (180) from a second client (130b), the third request including the original location for the network resource (180);sending (315) a redirect response, by the network management system (120) to the second client (130b), including the modified location for the network resource (180);receiving (320), by the scanning system (190), a fourth request for the network resource (180) from the second client (130b), the fourth request including the modified location;in response to receiving the fourth request for the network resource (180) from the second client (130b): determining (325), by the scanning system (190), that the network resource (180) has been previously determined to be suitable;and sending (330), by the scanning system (190), a stored version of the network resource (180) to the second client (130b).
  9. 12
A non-transitory, computer-readable medium storing instructions operable when executed to cause at least one processor to perform the operations of method claims 1-11.
  10. 13
A system comprising:memory for storing data;and one or more processors operable to perform the operations of method claims 1-11.
