  1. 1
An extravascular system (10),for accessing the vasculature of a patient, comprising:a catheter assembly (12) having a catheter (14) a needle (30) comprising a sharp distal tip (28);a needle tip shield assembly having a needle cap;the needle cap (24) having a V-clip and beeing configured to contain the distal tip (28) of the needle (30) when the needle is removed from the catheter (14);the V-clip (58) comprising a first arm (62) and a second arm (64) joined by an elbow;and a structure having at least one low friction surface (40);characterized in that , the structure having the low friction surface (40) resides between the V-clip (58) and the needle (30), wherein the at least one low friction surface (40) comprises a coating on the first arm (62) of the V-clip (58), wherein the coating comprises polytetrafluoroethylene, a soft metal, and/or a cured lubricant, wherein the coating is configured to reduce a withdrawal force necessary to move an outer surface of the needle (30) across a face of the first arm (62).
  2. 7
A method of manufacturing an extravascular system for accessing the vasculature of a patient, comprising:providing a catheter assembly (12) having a catheter (14);providing a needle (30) comprising a sharp distal tip (28);providing a needle tip shield assembly having a needle cap, the needle cap (24) has a V-clip and beeing configured to contain the distal tip (28) of the needle (30) when the needle is removed from the catheter (14);providing the V-clip (58) comprising a first arm (62) and a second arm (64) joined by an elbow;and providing a structure that resides between the V-clip (58) and the needle (30), wherein the structure comprises at least one low friction surface (40) that reduces friction between the V-clip and the needle (30);characterized in that , the at least one low friction surface (40) reduces friction between the V-clip and a needle of an extravascular system (10), wherein the at least one low friction surface (40) comprises a coating on the first arm (62) of the V-clip (58), wherein the coating comprises polytetrafluoroethylene, a soft metal, and/or a cured lubricant, wherein the coating is configured to reduce a withdrawal force necessary to move an outer surface of the needle (30) across a face of the first arm (62).
