  1. 1
A biopsy device (10), comprising:a housing body (20) defining a longitudinal axis (22);a cannula assembly (16) having a first elongate cannula (52) having a first side wall (52-3) configured to define a first lumen (52-4) and an elongate side opening (52-5) that extends through the first side wall (52-3), and a second elongate cannula (58) coaxial with the first elongate cannula (52), the second elongate cannula having a second side wall (58-3) configured to define a second lumen (58-4) and a cutting edge (58-2), the second side wall having a vacuum side port (58-5) in fluid communication with the second lumen (58-4);a vacuum source (18) positioned in the housing body (20), the vacuum source having a chamber side wall (76) having a chamber vacuum port (76-3), the vacuum source having a seal (78) interposed in sealing engagement between the chamber vacuum port (76-3) and the second elongate cannula (58);and a trigger slide assembly (14) coupled to the housing body (20), and coupled to the cannula assembly (16), and configured to move the second elongate cannula (58) to align the vacuum side port of the second elongate cannula with the chamber vacuum port (76-3) of the vacuum source to supply vacuum from the vacuum source (18) to the second lumen (58-4) of the second elongate cannula.
  2. 8
The biopsy device of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7, wherein the second elongate cannula (58) is positioned within the first lumen of the first elongate cannula (52), the first elongate cannula being stationary with respect to the housing body (20), and the second elongate cannula (58) being movable within the first lumen (52-4) relative to the housing body (20), the second lumen of the second elongate cannula (58) being in fluid communication with the first lumen of the first elongate cannula (52).
  3. 9
The biopsy device of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7, comprising a cannula support rod (44) affixed to the housing body (20), and being coaxial with the first elongate cannula (52) and the second elongate cannula (58), the cannula support rod (44) being received in the second lumen of the second elongate cannula (58).
