  1. 1
A method of positioning a patient for treatment, comprising:associating fiducials with the patient;using a first imaging system (14) at an imaging position (18) to capture a first image of the fiducials and of an irradiation target while the patient is on a treatment couch (13), the imaging position (18) being in a treatment room (12) where treatment is to be performed;moving the treatment couch (13) while the patient is on the treatment couch (13) from the imaging position (18) toward a treatment position (19), the treatment position (19) being different from the imaging position (18) and being in the treatment room (12);following movement of the treatment couch (14), using a second imaging system to capture a second image of the fiducials in the treatment room (12);determining locations of the fiducials in the treatment room (12) based on both the first image and the second image;determining a location of the irradiation target relative to a therapy system (15) based on locations of the fiducials in the treatment room and in the first image;and moving the treatment couch into the treatment position (19) in the treatment room (12) based on the location of the irradiation target.
  2. 6
A treatment system for use in a treatment room comprising:a treatment couch (13) for holding a patient in the treatment room;fiducials associatable with the patient;a first imaging system (14) located at an imaging position (18) and adapted to capture a first image of the fiducials and of an irradiation target while the patient is on the treatment couch;a mechanism to move the treatment couch (13) while the patient is on the treatment couch (13) from the imaging position (18) toward a treatment position (19), the treatment position (19) being different from the imaging position (18) ;a second imaging system adapted to capture a second image of the fiducials in the treatment room (12) following movement of the treatment couch (13) toward the treatment position (19);a therapy system adapted to treat the patient when the patient is located in the treatment position;and a computer system programmed to align locations of the fiducials in the second image to locations in the treatment room, to align locations of the fiducials in the first image to the locations in the treatment room (12), and to determine a location of the irradiation target relative to a therapy system (15) based on the locations of the fiducials in the treatment room (12) and based on the first image;wherein the mechanism to move the treatment couch (13) is controllable to move the treatment couch (13) based on the location of the irradiation target to correct the position of the irradiation target so that the irradiation target is in the treatment position (19).
