10 claims: 4 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
A mammography/tomosynthesis system for imaging a patient's breast with x-rays comprising:an x-ray source (90, 100);a flat panel digital x-ray imager (16);a breast support (12) and compression paddle (14) configured to immobilize a patient's breast between the x-ray source and the x-ray imager;the system configured to obtain at least mammography and tomosynthesis images, and the system configured to move the x-ray source relative to the x-ray imager for tomosynthesis imaging and that the x-ray source is fixed in relation to the x-ray imager mammography imaging, and wherein the system is configured to operate at different spatial resolution of the mammography and tomosynthesis images, such that the system is configured operate at a finer spatial resolution for one of the mammography and tomosynthesis images and coarser for another of mammography and tomosynthesis images.
  2. 3
The mammography/tomosynthesis system of any of the preceding claims, wherein the system is configured to selectively bin pixel data, optionally, in which an image processor is arranged to control the selective binning of pixel data.
  3. 6
The mammography/tomosynthesis system of any of the preceding claims, wherein the system operates in a combo mode in which both mammography imaging and tomosynthesis imaging is obtained.
  4. 8
The mammography/tomosynthesis system of any of the preceding claims further comprising an anti-scatter grid (15) configured to be positioned between the patient's breast and the x-ray imager.
