EP2781985A1

Deciphering device using a cryptographic key changed at a predetermined timing

Abstract

An enciphering/deciphering apparatus and method are provided by which illegal copying can be prevented with a greater degree of certainty. Data enciphered by a 1394 interface (26) of a DVD player (1) is transmitted to a personal computer (2) and a magneto-optical disk apparatus (3) through a 1394 bus (11). In the magneto-optical disk apparatus (3) with which a change to a function is open to a user, the received data is deciphered by a 1394 interface (36). In contrast, in the personal computer (2) with which a change to a function is open to a -user, the enciphered data is deciphered using a time variable key (50) by a 1394 interface (49), and a result of the decipherment is further deciphered using a session key by an application section.

6 claims: 1 independent, 5 dependent

  1. 1
A deciphering apparatus for deciphering data using a cryptographic key, comprising:an operation section operated by a user to output a signal corresponding to an operation selected by the user;non-volatile memory means for storing information;receiving means for receiving enciphered data from another electronics apparatus;first providing means (30) for providing a session key (S);second providing means (30) for providing a changing key (i) which is changed during a session when the session key is used;producing means (171, 172, 173) for producing the cryptographic key based upon the session key and the changing key;and deciphering means (174) for deciphering the received enciphered data using the cryptographic key, wherein the cryptographic key is changed at a predetermined timing during the session in accordance with a change in the changing key;wherein the changing key is changed by using secret information shared with the other electronics apparatus and a time variable key (i') generated at the enciphering apparatus;and wherein the time variable key is changed at a timing that is not each one movie.
  2. 4
The deciphering apparatus according to one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the session key is a pseudo-random number.
  3. 5
The deciphering apparatus according to one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the cryptographic key is produced by adding the changing key into the session key.
  4. 6
The deciphering apparatus according to one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the adding includes an exclusive-or operation.
