15 claims: 7 independent, 8 dependent

  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2013070915 A1 CLAIMS We claim:1. A method for operating non-volatile storage, comprising: programming a group of non-volatile storage elements that are associated with a word line, the non-volatile storage elements are programmed to a plurality of data states (1002);maintaining information after the programming is complete that indicates which of the non-volatile storage elements were intended to be programmed to a first data state of the plurality of data states (1004);applying a first reference voltage to a first end of the word line after the programming, the first reference voltage is associated with the first data state (1006);determining results of applying the reference voltage (1008);and determining whether the word line has an abnormally high resistance portion based on the results and the maintained information (1010).
  2. 5
The method of any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the determining whether the word line has an abnormally high resistance portion includes:determining whether the non-volatile storage elements that were both intended to be programmed to the first data state and conducted a current in response to the first reference voltage is greater than a threshold number of the non-volatile storage elements.
  3. 6
The method of any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the information for a first of the non-volatile storage elements is maintained in a data latch that is used during the programming of the first non- volatile storage element.
  4. 8
The method of any of claims 1 to 7, wherein the programming includes:programming a pattern other than programming all of the non-volatile storage elements in the group to the highest data state of the plurality of data states, the programming is performed during device qualification.
  5. 9
A non-volatile storage device comprising:a plurality of non-volatile storage elements;a plurality of word lines (WLO, WL1, WL2, ...), a first word line is associated with a group of non-volatile storage elements in the plurality, each of the plurality of word lines having a first end;one or more management circuits (244, 220, 230, 240, 242) in communication with the plurality of word lines, the one or more management circuits program the group of non-volatile storage elements that are associated with the first word line to a plurality of data states (e.g., Er, A, B, ...), the one or more management circuits maintain information after the programming is complete that indicates which of the non-volatile storage elements were intended to be programmed to a first data state of the plurality of data states, the one or more management circuits apply a first reference voltage to a first end of the word line after the programming, the first reference voltage is associated with the first data state, the one or more management circuits determine results of applying the reference voltage, the one or more management circuits determine whether the word line has an abnormally high resistance portion based on the results and the maintained information.
  6. 13
The non-volatile storage device of any of claims 9 to 12, wherein the one or more management circuits determine whether the non-volatile storage elements that were both intended to be programmed to the first data state and conducted a current in response to the first reference voltage is greater than a threshold number of the non-volatile storage elements as a part of the determining whether the word line has an abnormally high resistance portion.
  7. 14
The non-volatile storage device of any of claims 9 to 13, further comprising:a plurality of sets (394, 395, 396, 397) of latches (ADL, BDL, CDL, DDL), each set of latches is associated with one of the non-volatile storage elements in the group, the set of latches associated with each non-volatile storage element includes data latches (ADL, BDL, CDL) for storing the data state to be programmed into the non-volatile storage element and an additional latch (DDL) that serves a purpose in programming other than for storing data state information, the one or more management circuits maintain information in the additional latch associated with each of the non- volatile storage elements in order to maintain the information after programming.
