    Claims of equivalent WO 2012051358 A2 WHAT IS CLAIMED:1 . A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising: a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer and an interior perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;the top and bottom portions of the housing comprising respective clasping mechanisms that extend along the interior perimeter portion of the top and bottom portion, which clasping mechanisms are configured for interfacing with one another in such a manner so as to couple the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing, wherein when the housing is sealed the clasping mechanisms are entirely internal to the housing;one or both of the top and bottom portions comprising a channel that extends along the outer perimeter portion of the top and/or bottom portion, wherein at least one channel includes a gasket positioned within the channel.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by a perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;wherein the front and back surfaces of the top portion of the housing comprise at least a first membrane, and the perimeter portion of the top portion comprises a plurality of sub- portions, a first sub-portion comprising an interior bounding member composed of a rigid material, and the second sub-portion comprising an exterior bounding member composed of a flexible material, wherein the first membrane spans from one side of the perimeter to another in such a manner that the back surface of the first membrane associates with the interior bounding member and the front surface of the first membrane associates with the exterior bounding member so as to integrally fix the membrane in place, wherein the housing further comprises a clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions the front surface of the top portion of the housing comprising a first membrane, the first membrane having one or more features, wherein the one or more features is selected from an acoustic membrane feature and a button feature, the acoustic membrane feature comprising an aperture in the first membrane of the front surface, which aperture is covered by a second membrane, the second membrane being acoustically transmissive but liquid impermeable and offset from the first membrane;and the button feature comprising a raised deformable perimeter surrounding an indented region, the raised deformable perimeter being configured to allow a measure of travel for the indented region of the button feature such that when the indented region is depressed the raised portion is deformed thereby allowing the indented region to travel without causing significant stretching of the first membrane;the housing further comprising an entirely internal clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;the bottom portion comprising a lens feature, wherein the lens feature comprises one or more lenses and an optical skirt surrounding the one or more lens, wherein the housing further comprises a clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;the distal end portion comprising a waterproof latch feature for enclosing a charge port opening, the latch feature comprising a lower latch interface, a latch comprising a gasket, and an upper latch interface, the latch being configured for rotatably moving from a closed position wherein the latch is in contact with both the lower and upper latch interfaces, to an open position wherein the latch is in contact with only one of the lower or upper latch interfaces;and wherein the housing further comprises a clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;the proximal end portion comprising an acoustic vent feature for transmitting sound, the acoustic vent feature comprising a sound channel and an acoustic vent material spanning the acoustic vent channel, wherein the sound channel comprises a channel extending from an exterior portion of the proximal end portion to an interior portion of the proximal end portion, and wherein the acoustic vent material transects the sound channel at an angle less than 90 degrees;and wherein the housing further comprises a clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;one of the opposing side portions comprising a switch feature for engaging a switch mechanism of the electronic device, the switch feature comprising an actuator having a switch interface and an axle configured such that as the actuator rotates about the axle the switch interface causes the switch to move from a first to a second position;and wherein the housing further comprises a clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;the outer perimeter portion comprising a coin slot feature for assisting in separating the top portion of the housing from the bottom portion of the housing, the coin slot feature comprising an indented cut out positioned in one or both of the top and bottom portion, the cut out being bounded by opposing overhang regions in one or both of the top and bottom portions;and wherein the housing further comprises a clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;the outer perimeter portion comprising a noise cancelling feature for cancelling ambient noise, the noise cancelling feature comprising an aperture, positioned in one or both of the top and bottom portion, an acoustic membrane, and a sound guide channel, the acoustic membrane separating the aperture from the sound guide channel, and the sound guide channel being configured for directing sound toward a noise cancelling microphone present on an encased electronic device;and wherein the housing further comprises a clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.

    A housing within which an electronic device may be fitted, the housing comprising:a top portion and a bottom portion configured for being removably coupled together so as to form the housing, wherein each top and bottom portion of the housing comprises a front and a back surface surrounded by an outer perimeter portion defined by a proximal and a distal end portion and opposing side portions;the outer perimeter portion comprising a headphone port feature for receiving one or both of a headphone jack of a headphone assembly or a closure device, the headphone port feature comprising an aperture positioned in one or both of the top and bottom portion, the aperture being bounded by one or both of an O-ring and a threaded region, which threaded region is configured for receiving a corresponding threaded region present on either the headphone jack or the closure;and wherein the housing further comprises a clasping mechanism, which clasping mechanism is configured for coupling the top and bottom portions of the housing with one another thereby sealing the housing.
