Methods of forming an ophthalmic lens precursor and a lens

Abstract

Methods for forming an ophthalmic lens precursor from a reactive mixture, on a substrate with an arcuate optical quality surface via a source of actinic radiation controllable to cure a definable portion of a volume of the reactive mixture, with at least a portion of one surface free-formed.

17 claims: 3 independent, 14 dependent

  1. 1
A method of forming an ophthalmic Lens Precursor, the method comprising the steps of:positioning a single substrate with an optical quality area in contact with a volume of reactive mixture;and transmitting sufficient actinic radiation through the single substrate to polymerize a portion of the volume of reactive mixture and form the ophthalmic Lens Precursor wherein the ophthalmic Lens Precursor comprises a first surface portion along the optical quality area and a second surface portion that is free-formed.
  2. 16
The method of any preceding claim, wherein the step of positioning a single substrate with an optical quality area in contact with a volume of reactive mixture comprises the step of positioning the single substrate with an optical quality area relative to a reservoir and thereafter filling the reservoir with a volume of reactive mixture.
  3. 17
The method of any preceding claim, further comprising the step of utilizing the ophthalmic Lens Precursor to form an ophthalmic lens.
