Photocatalytic window and method of making same

Abstract

Certain example embodiments of this invention relate to a photo catalytic coated article and a method of making the same. In certain example embodiments, a coated article includes a zirconium nitride and/or oxide inclusive layer before heat treatment (HT). The coated article is heat treated so that following heat treatment (e.g., thermal tempering) a zirconium oxide based layer is provided. A photocatalytic layer (e.g., of an oxide of titanium) maybe formed over zirconium oxide based layer following heat treatment.

  1. 1
A method of making a heat treated coated article, the method comprising:providing a coating supported by a glass substrate, the coating comprising a zirconium nitride and/or oxide based layer;thermally tempering the glass substrate with the zirconium nitride and/or oxide based layer thereon, so that following tempering there is provided a layer comprising zirconium oxide;following said tempering, forming a photocatalytic layer comprising a metal oxide on the glass substrate over at least the layer comprising zirconium oxide.
  2. 8
A coated article comprising:at least one layer provided on a glass substrate;a photocatalytic layer provided on the glass substrate over the at least one layer, wherein the photocatalytic layer comprises each of: (a) an active oxide of a metal for reacting with and decompose at least some organic compounds and/or pollutants that may come into contact with a surface of the coated article, and (b) silver and/or copper.
