Vibration damper of a vehicle and method of reducing vibration

Abstract

In a vehicle an auxiliary machine (13) such as an air compressor is physically associated with the vehicle battery (12). The battery provides for substantial additional mass which resists transmission of noise and vibration from the small machine to the vehicle structure (11). The small machine (13) may itself form part of a battery clamp arrangement.

15 claims: 7 independent, 8 dependent

  1. 1
In physical combination, a vehicle battery and small machine, the combination comprising a resilient support for attachment to a vehicle structure.
  2. 4
The combination of any preceding claim, wherein the small machine overlies the battery.
  3. 5
The combination of any preceding claim, wherein the small machine is an electrically powered pump.
  4. 6
A vehicle incorporating the combination of any of claims 1-5, preferably wherein the combination is directly attached to the body shell thereof via said resilient support.
  5. 7
A method of reducing noise and vibration from an auxiliary machine of a vehicle having a battery, the method comprising the steps of physically associating the small machine and battery, and resiliently mounting the combination of small machine and battery to a vehicle.
  6. 9
A battery clamp for the battery of a vehicle, said clamp comprising a mounting for an auxiliary machine of said vehicle, preferably wherein said mounting comprises said auxiliary machine, and more preferably wherein said mounting and auxiliary machine are resiliently coupled.
  7. 15
A method of clamping a battery into a vehicle, and comprising the steps of placing an auxiliary machine against the battery, and attaching the auxiliary machine to the vehicle so as to sandwich the battery therebetween.
