  1. 1
A mass spectrometry probe comprising at least one porous material, characterised in that the at least one porous material is a) wetted by applying a small volume of a solution containing a solvent and an analyte onto the porous material;or b) swabbed along a surface including a powdered analyte and wetted by a small volume of a solvent, either prior or after swabbing;or c) pre-spotted by an analyte and wetted by a small volume of a solvent;and the at least one porous material is connected to a high voltage source to generate ions of said analyte without pneumatic assistance.
  2. 8
A method for analyzing a sample comprising analyzing expelled ions, characterised in that the ions are generated by:a) applying a small volume of a solution containing a solvent and analyte onto at least one porous material so that it is wetted;or b) swabbing at least one porous material along a surface including a powdered analyte and applying either prior or after said swabbing, a small volume of solvent onto the porous material so that it is wetted;or c) pre-spotting at least one porous material with an analyte and applying a small volume of solvent onto the porous material so that it is wetted;and applying a high voltage to the at least one porous material to generate ions of said analyte that are expelled from the porous material without pneumatic assistance.
