Wireless circuitry with reduced harmonic interference

Abstract

An electronic device (10) has wireless communications circuitry (34) that includes transmitters (48) and receivers (50). Antenna structures (40) may be coupled to the transmitters (48) and receivers (50) to support radio-frequency signal transmission and radio-frequency signal reception operations. Switching circuitry (64) such as first (64LB) and second (64HB) radio-frequency switches may be used to support multiple communications bands of interest. A low band set of transmitters may be associated with the first switch (64LB) and a high band set of transmitters may be associated with the second switch (64HB). The switches (64) can be configured in real time to switch a desired communications band into use. As transmitted signals at frequency f pass through the switches, harmonics at 2f, 3f, and other integral multiples of the transmitted signals may be produced. A diplexer (68)_may be interposed between the switching circuitry and the antenna structures (40) that prevents the harmonics from reaching the antenna structures (40).

  1. 1
Wireless circuitry (34), comprising:a first set of radio-frequency transmitters (48) that operate in a first set of communications bands;a second set of radio-frequency transmitters (48) that operate in a second set of communications bands;a first switch (64LB) having a plurality of first switch terminals (T) each of which is coupled to a respective one of the radio-frequency transmitters (48) in the first set of radio-frequency transmitters and having an additional terminal (T') to which a selected one of the plurality of first switch terminals is connected;a second switch (64HB) having a plurality of second switch terminals (T) each of which is coupled to a respective one of the radio-frequency transmitters (48) in the second set of radio-frequency transmitters and having an additional terminal (T') to which a selected one of the plurality of second switch terminals is connected;an antenna (40A);and a diplexer (68) having a first port (PL) that is coupled to the additional terminal (T') of the first switch (64LB), a second port (PH) that is coupled to the additional terminal (T') of the second switch (64HB), and a third port (PA) that is coupled to the antenna (40A).
  2. 9
The wireless circuitry of any preceding claim, comprising:a second antenna (40B);a receiver (46) that receives signals in at least a first communications band through the second antenna (40B);wherein the diplexer (68) prevents signals at harmonics of a frequency f transmitted by the antenna (40) from reaching the second antenna (40B) and from reaching the receiver (46) through the second antenna (40B).
