Removing debris from cleaning robots

Abstract

A cleaning robot system (5) includes a robot (10) and a robot maintenance station (100,1100,1200,1300,1400). The robot (10) includes a chassis (31), a drive system (45) configured to maneuver the robot (10) as directed by a controller (49), and a cleaning assembly (43) including a cleaning assembly housing (40) and a driven cleaning roller (60,65). The robot maintenance station (100,1100,1200,1300,1400) includes a station housing (120) and a docking platform (122) configured to support the robot (10) when docked. A mechanical agitator (510,520) engages the roller (60,65) of the robot (10) with the robot (10) docked. The agitator (510,520) includes an agitator comb (511) having multiple teeth (512) configured to remove accumulated debris from the roller (60,65) as the agitator comb (511) and roller (60,65) are moved relative to one another.; The robot maintenance station (100,1100,1200,1300,1400) includes a collection bin (150) arranged to receive and hold debris removed by the mechanical agitator (510,520).

  1. 1
A cleaning robot system (5) comprising:a robot (10) comprising: a chassis (31);a drive system (45) mounted on the chassis (31) and configured to maneuver the robot (10) as directed by a controller (49) in communication with the drive system (45);a driven cleaning head (60, 65) rotatably carried by the chassis (31);and a cleaning bin (50) carried by the chassis (31) and configured to receive debris from the cleaning head (40, 60, 65) during cleaning;a robot docking station (100, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400) comprising: a docking station housing (120) configured to receive the robot (10) in a docked configuration for robot maintenance;a debris collection bin (150);and a motorized vacuum pump (900, 1110) that draws air and debris from the robot cleaning bin (50) to deposit the debris into the debris collection bin (150);wherein the collection bin (150) is removable from the docking station housing (120).
  2. 8
The cleaning robot system (5) of any one of claims 3 or 7 wherein the housing (120) of the docking station (100, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400) fluidly connects a vacuum cleaner cleaning head (1105) of the docking station (100, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400) to the robot cleaning head (60, 65) to evacuate the robot cleaning bin (50) into the collection bin (150) of the manually operable vacuum cleaner (1100).
  3. 9
The cleaning robot system (5) of any one of claims 3, 7 or 8, wherein the robot cleaning head (40) comprises a mechanical agitator (60, 65) and the station cleaning head (1105) comprises at least one agitator comb (511), the housing (120) of the docking station (100, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400) mechanically connecting the agitator comb (511) of the cleaning head (1105) to the mechanical agitator (60, 65) of the robot cleaning head (40) to remove accumulated debris from the mechanical agitator (60, 65).
  4. 10
The cleaning robot system (5) of any one of claims 3 or 7 to 9, wherein the mechanical agitator (60, 65) comprises one or both of rotating bristle brush members (61) and a rotating pliable beater members (62).
  5. 11
The cleaning robot system (5) of any one of claims 3 or 7 to 10, wherein the agitator comb (511) comprises one or both of rotating bristle brush members (61) and a rotating pliable beater members (62).
