15 claims: 4 independent, 11 dependent

  1. 1
An interactive display system including an interactive surface (114) comprising a drive grid (202) and a sense grid (204), wherein the drive grid (202) induces a current in a pointing device (112), and the pointing device (112) in turn induces a current in the sense grid (204), the system comprising a plurality of pointing devices (112);and characterised in that each pointing device (112) has a unique nominal frequency (f i );and in that the system further comprises a drive grid signal generator (210) for driving the drive grid (202) for a period of time at each of the unique nominal frequencies (f i ) of the pointing devices (112), wherein the system adapts the period of time for a given unique nominal frequency (f i ) to optimize said period of time for the pointing device (112) having that unique nominal frequency.
  2. 4
The interactive display system according to any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein a default period of time for each nominal frequency (f i ) is the total period of time for providing a drive signal divided by the number of devices (112) in use.
  3. 6
The interactive display system according to any one of claims 1 to 5 wherein each unique nominal frequency (f i ) is within a pre-allocated unique frequency band.
  4. 7
The interactive display system according to any one of claims 1 to 6 wherein the drive frequency alternates between the nominal frequencies (f i ) for an equal amount of time.
  5. 8
The interactive display system according to any one of claims 1 to 7 wherein a drive period is divided up according to the number of pointers (112) in use and/or wherein the drive period is a default period which is set in dependence upon the number of pointers (112) used.
  6. 9
The interactive display system according to any one of claims 1 to 8 wherein a nominal time period is set and subdivided in accordance with the number of pointers (112).
  7. 12
A method, in an interactive display system including an interactive surface (114) comprising a drive grid (202) and a sense grid (204), in which the drive grid (202) induces a current in a pointing device (112), and the pointing device (112) in turn induces a current in the sense grid, characterised in that the system comprises a plurality of pointing devices (112), each pointing device (112) having a unique nominal frequency (f i ), the method comprising the steps of generating a drive grid signal;driving the drive grid (202) for a period of time at each of the unique nominal frequencies (f i ) of the pointing devices (112), and adapting the period of time for a given unique nominal frequency to optimize the period of time for the pointing device (112) having that unique nominal frequency.
  8. 14
The method according to claims 12 or 13 further comprising the step of determining a default period of time for each nominal frequency (f i ) as the total period of time for providing a drive signal divided by the number of devices (112) in use;providing a period of time higher than the default period of time for certain devices (112);and providing a period of time lower than the default period of time for certain devices (112).
  9. 15
A computer program, or a computer program product for storing a computer program, which computer program, when run on a computer, performs the method of any one of claims 12 to 14.
