  1. 1
A device (1000) comprising:at least two spring element areas (1002), wherein each spring element area includes: a first body portion (1004a);a second body portion (1004b), wherein the first body portion and the second body portion, at least in part, define a base orientation of the device and wherein an open space (1006) is defined between the first body portion and the second body portion;and a first spring member (1008) removably secured to and engaged with respect to at least one of the first body portion or the second body portion, wherein when a force is applied to at least one of the first body portion or the second body portion so as to change the device out of the base orientation, the at least one of the first body portion or the second body portion pivots with respect to the first spring member, and the first spring member exerts a force that urges the device toward the base orientation, wherein the first spring member includes a polymeric element that stretches under a tensile force, wherein the first body portion and the second body portion are formed as a unitary one-piece construction.
  2. 5
A device (1000) according to claim 5, wherein the first spring engagement portion (1004c) defines a first chamber into which a first enlarged end (1008a) of the first spring member (1008) fits, and the second engagement portion (1004c) defines a second chamber into which a second enlarged end (1008a) of the first spring member fits.
  3. 7
A foot-receiving device (1100), comprising:an upper member (1102);a sole member (1104) engaged with the upper member;and an impact attenuating/spring device (1000) engaged with at least one of the upper member or the sole member, wherein the impact attenuating/spring device is as defined in any one of claims 1-6.
  4. 13
A method comprising:providing an upper member (1102) and a sole member (1104) for a foot-receiving device (1100);selecting at least a portion of an impact attenuating/spring device (1000) according to any one of claims 1-6 at least in part based on a characteristic of a user of the foot-receiving device or a characteristic of an intended use of the foot-receiving device;and engaging the impact attenuating/spring device with at least one of the upper member or the sole member of the foot-receiving device.
