  1. 1
A method of contention based random access bandwidth request at a mobile station in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:transmitting a bandwidth request indicator and a quick access message to a base station;receiving an acknowledgement indicating whether the base station receives the bandwidth request indicator and the quick access message from the base station;and characterized in that the method comprises starting a bandwidth request timer having a value determined based on the acknowledgement when the acknowledgement is received from the base station, and in that if the acknowledgement indicates that the bandwidth request indicator and the quick access message are successfully received, the value of the bandwidth request timer is set based on a service flow parameter of a service flow between the mobile station and the base station.
  2. 6
A mobile station of a wireless communication system, the mobile station comprising:a transmitter configured to transmit a bandwidth request indicator and a quick access message to a base station;and a receiver configured to receive an acknowledgement indicating whether the base station receives the bandwidth request indicator and the quick access message from the base station;characterized in that the mobile station comprises a processor configured to start a bandwidth request timer having a value determined based on the acknowledgement when the acknowledgement is received from the base station, and in that if the acknowledgement indicates that the bandwidth request indicator and the quick access message are successfully received, the value of the bandwidth request timer is set based on a service flow parameter of a service flow between the mobile station and the base station.
