  1. 1
An access terminal apparatus for real-time information encoding in wireless communications, the apparatus comprising:a wireless access module (140);a rate-adaptation unit (130) configured to receive feedback information associated with data transmission in a wireless network from the wireless access module (140), wherein the feedback information comprises local feedback information and end-to-end data delay;wherein the rate-adaption unit determines if the end-to-end data delay is below a lower threshold, and if so, increases each of a plurality of set thresholds by a first value;wherein the rate-adaption unit determines if the end-to-end data delay is above an upper threshold, and if so, decreases each of the plurality of set thresholds by a second value;said first value and second value being based on the end-to-end data delay;wherein the rate-adaption unit determines reverse link data delay from the local feedback information;and an encoder (120) configured to encode real-time information, the encoder decreasing an encoding rate of the real-time information if the reverse link data delay is larger than a first threshold of the plurality of set thresholds and increasing the encoding rate of the real-time information if the reverse link data delay is below a second threshold of the plurality of set thresholds.
  2. 5
The apparatus of any previous claim, wherein the local feedback information includes reverse link channel condition.
  3. 7
The apparatus of any previous claim, wherein the local feedback information includes reverse link sector loading status, at least one of reverse link physical layer packet payload and reverse link MAC layer packet payload, and wherein the local feedback information is associated with an amount of data buffered in the wireless access module.
  4. 8
The apparatus of any previous claim, wherein the wireless access module (140) is configured to be in communication with the wireless communication network.
  5. 9
A method for real-time information encoding in wireless communications, comprising:receiving at an access terminal feedback information associated with data transmission from a wireless access module comprised in the access terminal, wherein the feedback information comprises local feedback information and end-to-end data delay;determining if the end-to-end data delay is below a lower threshold, and if so, increasing each of a plurality of set thresholds by a first value;determining if the end-to-end data delay is above an upper threshold, and if so, decreasing each of the plurality of set thresholds by a second value;said first value and second value being based on the end-to-end data delay;determining reverse link data delay from the local feedback information;and encoding real-time information, in accordance with the reverse link data delay and the plurality of set thresholds, wherein encoding the real-time information in accordance with the reverse link data delay and the at least one set threshold comprises: decreasing an encoding rate of the real-time information if the reverse link data delay is above a first threshold of the plurality of set thresholds;and increasing the encoding rate if the reverse link data delay is below a second threshold of the plurality of set thresholds.
  6. 11
The method of any of claims 9 or 10, wherein encoding the real-time information includes determining a unit of the real-time information to be encoded, based in part on the feedback information.
