13 claims: 3 independent, 10 dependent

  1. 1
A method, performed at a base station (104), for controlling power levels of a first wireless transmission and a second wireless transmission by the base station (104) to a remote terminal (106), the method comprising:deriving an initial transmit power level for the second transmission;selecting a power control mode based on the operating conditions of the first and the second transmission;and signalling the selected power control mode to the remote terminal (106), characterized in that the first wireless transmission is a Forward Fundamental Channel, F-FCH, or a Forward Dedicated Control Channel, F-DCCH, and the second wireless transmission is a Forward Supplemental Channel, F-SCH;wherein selecting a power control mode further includes selecting a power control mode for a single power control loop or dual power control loops based on whether data is being transmitted on the second transmission;and wherein the operating conditions depend on whether a first set of base station (104) transmitting the first transmission is the same as a second set of base station (104) transmitting the second transmission.
  2. 11
An apparatus for controlling power levels of a first wireless transmission and a second wirelesss transmission by a base station (104) for a wireless communication system to a remote terminal (106), the apparatus comprising:means (730) for deriving an initial transmit power level for the second transmission;means (710) for selecting a power control mode based on the operating conditions of the first and the second transmission;and means (712,714,716) for signalling the selected power control mode to a remote terminal, characterized in that the first wireless transmission is a Forward Fundamental Channel, F-FCH, or a Forward Dedicated Control Channel, F-DCCH and the second wireless transmission is a Forward Supplemental Channel, F-SCH;wherein the means for selecting a power control mode further include means for selecting a power control mode for a single power control loop or dual power control loops based on whether data is being transmitted on the second transmission;and wherein the operating conditions depend on whether a first set of base station (104) transmitting the first transmission is the same as a second set of base station (104) transmitting the second transmission.
  3. 13
A processor-readable medium including processor-executable instructions which, when executed, cause the processor to perform the steps of any one of the methods of claims 1 to 10.
