  1. 1
A base station for serving user equipment wherein the base station comprises logic (705) configured to transmit base station duplex capability information regarding which of a plurality of duplex modes are supported by the base station to the user equipment using a signal structure that is common to a plurality of duplex modes, wherein the plurality of duplex modes comprises a frequency division duplex mode, FDD, and a time division duplex mode, TDD, and to receive user equipment duplex capability information from a user equipment in response thereto in an access request message received from the user equipment using a carrier frequency and timing which are dependent on the base station duplex capability information.
  2. 8
A base station according to claim 8, wherein the half duplex mode and the full duplex mode are paired spectrum duplex modes.
  3. 15
A method of operation of a base station in a cellular communication system comprising:transmitting base station duplex capability information regarding which of a plurality of duplex modes are supported by the base station to user equipment using a signal structure that is common to a plurality of duplex modes, wherein the plurality of duplex modes comprises a frequency division duplex mode, FDD, and a time division duplex mode, TDD, and receiving user equipment duplex capability information from a user equipment in response thereto in an access request message received from the user equipment using a carrier frequency and timing which are dependent on the base station duplex capability information.
  4. 16
A method according to claim 16, wherein the signal structure comprises one or more common transmission parameters selected from the group comprising:a: a signal bandwidth;b: a coding rate;c: a modulation scheme;d: an interleaving;e: a coding scheme;and f: a timing.
