EP2237601A2

Transmission of the aggregate maximum bit rate from the MME to the E-node B and mobile terminal

Abstract

A method of signalling in a wireless communication system (300) comprising a first network element (310) serving a wireless communication unit (325) with at least one packet data network (PDN) connection. The method comprises transmitting, by the first network element (310) to the wireless communication unit (325), a signalling message relating to a wireless communication unit (325) uplink (UL) PDN transmission, where the signalling message comprises a parameter indicative of at least one aggregate maximum bit rate (AMBR) value.

  1. 1
A mobile unit which is arranged to communicate packet data with a wireless communications network to support user services, the mobile unit being arranged in operation to establish, in combination with the wireless communication network, one or more packet data network connections for providing one or more non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers, to receive an indication of an Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate from the wireless communication network for the packet data network connection for communicating from the mobile unit to the wireless communication network via the non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers, and to communicate the data packets, from the mobile unit to the wireless communication network, via the non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers to the effect that an aggregated bit rate for the packet data connection is limited based on the Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate.
  2. 4
A mobile unit as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein the mobile unit is arranged in operation to receive the indication of the Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate as an Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate value with an identifier for the packet data network connection and a priority value for each of the plurality of non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers, and to schedule the transmission of data packets via the plurality of non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearer using the priority values.
  3. 5
A mobile unit as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein the mobile unit is operable to receive the indication of the Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate as part of a configuration of radio bearers for the one or more non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers.
  4. 6
A mobile unit as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein the one or more non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers are established as part of a mobile initiated call.
  5. 7
A mobile unit as claimed in Claims 1 to 5, wherein the one or more non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers are established as part of a call initiated by the wireless communications network.
  6. 8
A mobile unit as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein the wireless communication network is operating in accordance with a Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard, the base station being a NodeB or e NodeB.
  7. 10
A method of operating a mobile unit to communicate packet data between the mobile unit and a wireless communications network to support user services, the method comprising establishing, in combination with the wireless communication network, one or more packet data network connections for providing one or more non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers, receiving an indication of an Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate from the wireless communication network for the packet data network connection for communicating from the mobile unit to the wireless communication network via the non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers, and communicating the data packets, from the mobile unit to the wireless communication network, via the non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers to the effect that an aggregated bit rate of the data packets communicated via the non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers is limited based on the Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate.
  8. 13
A method as claimed in any of Claims 10, 11 or 12, wherein the receiving the Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate includes receiving the indication of the Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate as an Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate value with an identifier for the packet data network connection and a priority value for each of the plurality of non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers, and the method includes scheduling the transmission of data packets via the plurality of non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers using the priority values.
  9. 14
A method as claimed in any of Claims 10 to 13, wherein the mobile unit is operable to receive the indication of the Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate as part of a configuration of radio bearers for the one or more non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers.
  10. 15
A method as claimed in any of Claims 10 to 14, wherein the wireless communication network is operating in accordance with a Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard, the base station being a NodeB or e NodeB.
