13 claims: 3 independent, 10 dependent

  1. 1
    A climate controlled seating assembly (10) comprising:a thermal module (14) comprising: at least one inlet channel (130);at least one outlet channel (132);a thermoelectric device (118) positioned upstream of the at least one outlet channel, said thermoelectric device being configured to selectively heat or cool a fluid passing through an interior of the thermal module;and a fluid transfer device (16) configured to transfer a fluid from the at least one inlet channel to the at least one outlet channel of the thermal module, past the thermoelectric device;and a sensor (40) positioned within an interior of the thermal module, said sensor configured to detect the presence of a liquid on or near said sensor;characterised in that the sensor is configured to detect the presence of a liquid by measuring an electrical resistance or capacitance across a portion of the sensor, the sensor comprising at least first and second conductive members (41, 43) and being configured to measure the electrical resistance or capacitance across said first and second conductive members, and wherein at least one of the first and second conductive members are etched onto a substrate of the thermoelectric device;
  2. 2
    The seating assembly of Claim 1, wherein the sensor is positioned on the thermoelectric device (118).
  3. 3
    The seating assembly of Claim 2, wherein the sensor is positioned along a cooling side of the thermoelectric device.
  4. 5
    The seating assembly of Claim 1, wherein the substrate comprises polyimide, epoxy or ceramic.
  5. 9
    A method of controlling a thermoelectric device configured for use in a climate controlled seat assembly, comprising:providing a fluid module (14) configured to provide heated or cooled air to the climate controlled seat assembly, said fluid module comprising: a thermoelectric device (118) configured to selectively heat or cool air passing through an interior of the fluid module;and a fluid transfer device (16) configured to transfer air through the interior of the fluid module, past the thermoelectric device;and positioning a sensor (40) within the fluid module, said sensor configured to detect condensates that contact said sensor;and directing a first voltage to the thermoelectric device to selectively heat or cool air transferred through fluid module;wherein a second voltage is directed to the thermoelectric device when the sensor detects condensates;and wherein the second voltage is less than the first voltage, and the sensor is positioned on the thermoelectric device.
  6. 10
    The method of Claim 9 wherein the sensor is configured to detect condensates by measuring an electrical resistance or capacitance across a portion of the sensor.
  7. 11
    The method of Claim 10 wherein the sensor positively detects condensates when the electrical resistance or capacitance changes by at least 10% over a 5 minute time period.
  8. 12
    The method of any one of Claims 9 to 11, wherein the second voltage is zero so that no current is supplied to the thermoelectric device.
  9. 13
    The method of any of Claims 9 to 12, wherein the sensor is positioned along an outlet of the fluid member, said outlet positioned downstream of the thermoelectric device, wherein said outlet is configured to receive air cooled by the thermoelectric device.
