  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2009073402 A2 CLAIMS What is claimed is:1. An ultrasonic surgical blade, comprising: a body having a proximal end, a distal end, and an outer surface, the distal end is movable relative to a longitudinal axis in accordance with ultrasonic vibrations applied to the proximal end, and at least a portion of the outer surface of the body comprises a lubricious coating adhered thereto, wherein the lubricious coating has a coefficient of friction that is less than the coefficient of friction of the outer surface of the body.
  2. 24
An ultrasonic surgical blade, comprising:a body having a proximal end, a distal end, and an outer surface, the distal end is movable relative to a longitudinal axis in accordance with ultrasonic vibrations applied to the proximal end;a first layer applied to at least a portion of the outer surface of the body;and a second layer applied to the first layer, wherein the second layer has a coefficient of friction that is less than the coefficient of friction of the surface of the body.
  3. 26
The ultrasonic surgical blade of claim 26, wherein the second layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of polymers, dry lubricants, metals, and metallized ceramics.
  4. 29
An ultrasonic surgical blade, comprising:a body having a proximal end, a distal end, and an outer surface, the distal end is movable relative to a longitudinal axis by ultrasonic vibrations applied to the proximal end, and at least a portion of the body comprises a predetermined surface treatment having a predetermined surface roughness formed thereon.
  5. 32
A method comprising:applying a lubricious coating on at least a portion of the outer surface of a body, the body having a proximal end, a distal end, and an outer surface, the distal end is movable relative to a longitudinal axis in accordance with ultrasonic vibrations applied to the proximal end, wherein the lubricious coating has a coefficient of friction that is less than the coefficient of friction of the outer surface of the body.
  6. 41
The method claim 40, comprising applying a metallic material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, stainless steel, and molybdenum over the at least a portion of the outer surface of the body.
