15 claims: 9 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
Network system for communicating between a mobile node (10) and a correspondent node (11) via a first IP edge-IP network-second IP edge connectivity (17), comprising a user IP addressing space and a network IP addressing space, characterized in that a locator identifier space is inserted between the user IP and network IP addressing space in the protocol stack of the mobile node, wherein the first (14) and second (15) IP edges are associated with first (24) and second locator identifiers, and wherein the system is further arranged for associating a mobile node (10) with one or more IP network addresses (23, 23') and an IP user address (25) decoupled from the one or more IP network addresses (23, 23') via the first locator identifier (24).
  2. 4
Mapper system associated with an IP edge (14, 15), for use in communicating between a mobile node (10), having a user IP address and being assigned at least one network IP address, and a correspondent node (11) via a first IP edge - IP network - second IP edge connectivity (17), where the user IP address is decoupled from the at least one network IP address via a locator identifier associated to the IP edge, for performing a mapping function, characterized by storage means for storing the unique locator identifier of the IP edge (14, 15);means for communicating (31) the locator identifier (24) to a mobile node (10) when said mobile node (10) is located in the working field of the IP edge (14, 15);means for registering (32) the user IP address (25) of a mobile node (10) when said mobile node (10) is located in the working field of the IP edge (14, 15);means for sending (34) an address resolution request of a user address (25) to another IP edge associated with said user address (25) upon request from a correspondent node (11) located in the working field of the IP edge, and means for receiving (34) the network address (23) and locator identifier (24) corresponding with said user address (25) and for forwarding (35) said network address (23) and locator identifier (24) to the correspondent node (11).
  3. 7
Method for communicating between a correspondent node (11) and a mobile node (10) having a user IP address and being assigned at least one network IP address, via a first IP edge-IP network-second IP edge connectivity (17), where the user IP address is decoupled from the at least one network IP address via a locator identifier associated to the first IP edge, charaterized by the steps of sending (31) the locator identifier from the first IP edge (14) to the mobile node (10);sending (32) the user address of the mobile node to the first IP edge (14);sending (33) a request for locating the user address (25) of the mobile node (10) from the correspondent node (11) to the second IP edge (15);sending (34) of an address resolution request by the second IP edge (15) to the first IP edge (14);sending (34) of the network address (23) and locator identifier (24) associated with the user address (25) of the mobile node (10) by the first IP edge (14) to the second IP edge (15);forwarding (35) of said network address (23) and locator identifier (24) associated with the mobile node (10) by the second IP edge (15) to the correspondent node (11).
  4. 10
Method according to any of the claims 7-9, further comprising the steps of:sending of an update by the first IP edge (14) to the second IP edge (15) if a new network address (23') is assigned to the mobile node (10) while keeping the same locator identifier (24), said update comprising said new network address (23') in association with said mobile node (10).
  5. 11
Method according to any of the claims 7-10 further comprising the steps of:when a mobile node (10) transits from one network domain having a first IP network address (23) to another having a second IP network address (23'), maintaining the associations with said first and second network addresses active during the transition period.
  6. 12
Method according to any of the claims 7-11, further comprising the steps of:sending of an update by the first IP edge (14) to the second IP edge (15) if a current network address of the mobile node (10) is detected inactive.
  7. 13
Method according to any of the claims 7-12, further comprising the steps of:storing the user addresses and corresponding network addresses and locator identifiers in a storage associated with the second IP edge (15), optionally storing a lease time for each of said correspondences.
  8. 14
Method according to any of the claims 7-13, characterized in that before sending (33) the request for locating the user address (25) of the mobile node (10), said user address (25) is obtained by the correspondent node via DNS.
  9. 15
Method according to any of the claims 7-14, characterized in that the sending (31) of a locator identifier (24) from the first IP edge (14) to the mobile node (10) consists in announcing the locator identifier (24) to the mobile node (10) as part of a DHCP option.
