A method to unify multiple subscriber identity profiles in a telecommunication system

Abstract

In a telecommunication system, a method for generating a communication path between a calling device (600, 660) and a called device (600, 660), a first device of the calling device and the called device storing a home subscriber identity (Profile 1) to identify itself as a subscriber to a home geographic region (network 1), said first device further storing at least a local subscriber identity (Profile 2, 610) to identify itself as a subscriber to a visited geographic region (network 2), the method comprising the acts of receiving a registration update message from the first device, said registration update reporting that the first device has identified itself with the visited geographic region using the local subscriber identity, receiving a communication signaling message to generate a communication path between the calling device to the called device, identifying the first device from the communication signaling message through one of the subscriber identity from a group comprising its local subscriber identity and its home subscriber identity, generating a communication path between the calling and called devices using the other one of the subscriber identities.

  1. 1
In a telecommunication system, a method for generating a communication path between a calling device (600, 660) and a called device (600, 660), a first device of the calling device and the called device storing a first subscriber identity (Profile1) to identify itself as a subscriber to a first geographic region (network 1), said first device further storing at least a second subscriber identity (Profile 2, 610) to identify itself as a subscriber to a second geographic region (network 2), the method comprising the acts of:- receiving a registration update message from the first device, said registration update reporting that the first device has identified itself with the second geographic region using the second subscriber identity, - receiving a communication signaling message to generate a communication path between the calling device to the called device, - identifying the first device from the communication signaling message through one of the subscriber identity from a group comprising the first and second subscriber identities, - generating a communication path between the calling and called devices using the other one of the subscriber identities.
  2. 2
The method according to the previous claim, wherein the first device is the called device, the act of identifying the called device comprising the act of identifying said called device using its Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number (MSISDN) associated to its first subscriber identity.
  3. 4
The method according to the previous claim 3, wherein the communication signaling message originates from the local point of presence (656) in the second network called by the calling device, the calling device being adapted to call said local point of presence when sending the communication signaling message.
  4. 5
In a telecommunication system comprising at least a first geographic region and a second geographic region, a call management node adapted to generating a communication path between a calling device (600, 660) and a called device (600, 660), a first device of the calling device and the called device storing a first subscriber identity (Profile1) to identify itself as a subscriber to the first geographic region (network 1), said first device further storing at least a second subscriber identity (Profile 2, 610) to identify itself as a subscriber to the visited geographic region (network 2), said call management node being adapted to:- receive a registration update message from the first device, said registration update reporting that the first device has identified itself with the second geographic region using the second subscriber identity, - receive a communication signaling message to generate a communication path between the calling device to the called device, - identify the first device from the communication signaling message through one of the subscriber identity from a group comprising the first and second subscriber identities, - generate a communication path between the calling and called devices using the other one of the subscriber identities.
  5. 6
The node according to the previous claim, wherein the first device is the called device, said node being further adapted to identify the called device using its Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number (MSISDN) associated to its first subscriber identity.
  6. 8
The node according to the previous claim 7, said node being further adapted to receive the communication signaling message from a local point of presence (656) for said node in the visited network, said local point of presence being called by the calling device, the calling device being adapted to call said local point of presence when sending the communication signaling message.
  7. 9
A telecommunication system comprising at least a first geographic region and a second geographic region, said system further comprising:- a calling device (600, 660) - a called device (600, 660), a first device of the calling device and the called device storing a first subscriber identity (Profile1) to identify itself as a subscriber to the first geographic region (network 1), said first device further storing at least a second subscriber identity (Profile 2, 610) to identify itself as a subscriber to the second geographic region (network 2), - a call management node (650, 652) adapted to generating a communication path between the calling device and the called device, said call management node being adapted to: - receive a registration update message from the first device, said registration update reporting that the first device has identified itself with the second geographic region using the second subscriber identity, - receive a communication signaling message to generate a communication path between the calling device to the called device, - identify the first device from the communication signaling message through one of the subscriber identity from a group comprising the first and second subscriber identities, - generate a communication path between the calling and called devices using the other one of the subscriber identities.
  8. 10
A computer readable carrier including computer program instructions that cause a computer to implement a method for generating a communication path between a calling device (600, 660) and a called device (600, 660) according to claims 1 to 4.
