Mobile ad-hoc network providing communication latency reduction features and related method

Abstract

A MANET (600) may include a plurality of MANET nodes (404) each comprising a wireless transceiver (406) and a controller (410) cooperating therewith for establishing a wireless communication link with an adjacent MANET node based upon a time division multiple access (TDMA) implementation. The TDMA implementation may use a repeating scheduling of a plurality of temporally spaced-apart time slot units within a control epoch to thereby reduce a latency of communication.

10 claims: 2 independent, 8 dependent

  1. 1
A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) comprising:a plurality of MANET nodes each comprising a wireless transceiver and a controller cooperating therewith for establishing a wireless communication link with an adjacent MANET node based upon a time division multiple access (TDMA) implementation, the TDMA implementation using a repeating scheduling of a plurality of temporally spaced-apart time slot units within a control epoch to thereby reduce a latency of communication.
  2. 2
The MANET of Claim 1 wherein the TDMA implementation uses time slots and without using a range dependent guard time therein;and wherein said controller further determines a range to the adjacent MANET node, and schedules time slots to offset a link delay in a received signal from the adjacent MANET node based upon the determined range.
  3. 3
The MANET of Claim 1 wherein the plurality of time slot units are temporally equally spaced-apart within the control epoch.
  4. 4
The MANET of Claim 1 wherein the time slot unit comprises a single time slot.
  5. 5
The MANET of Claim 1 wherein the time slot unit comprises a plurality of time slots.
  6. 6
A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) communications method for a plurality of MANET nodes, the method comprising:establishing a wireless communication link between a pair of adjacent MANET nodes based upon a time division multiple access (TDMA) implementation;the TDMA implementation using a repeating scheduling of a plurality of temporally spaced-apart time slot units within a control epoch to thereby reduce a latency of communication.
  7. 7
The method of Claim 6 wherein the plurality of time slot units are temporally equally spaced-apart within the control epoch.
  8. 8
The method of Claim 6 wherein each MANET node comprises a directional antenna;and wherein establishing comprises establishing a directional wireless communication link between the pair of adjacent MANET nodes.
  9. 9
The method of Claim 6 wherein the TDMA implementation comprises a distributed TDMA implementation wherein time slot scheduling operations are shared between the MANET nodes.
  10. 10
The method of Claim 6 wherein the TDMA implementation comprises a variable-length time slot TDMA implementation.
