  1. 1
A process for the manufacture of a polyester polymer, comprising:a) polycondensing a polyester polymer in the presence of one or more polycondensation catalysts;b) adding at least one additive compound comprising a catalyst deactivator compound to said polyester polymer after said polyester polymer has reached an intrinsic viscosity (It. V.) of at least 0.45 dl/g, It. V. being determined at 25 °C in 60% phenol and 40% 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane at a concentration of 0.25 g/50 ml using a viscometer according to ASTM D 4603 or ASTM D 5225;and c) further increasing the It.V of said polyester polymer to an It.V of at least 0.72 dl/g thereby producing a polyester polymer with a vinyl ends concentration of at least 0.8 µeq/gram, and an acetaldehyde (AA) generation rate of less than 22 ppm, the measurement method for the vinyl ends concentration being defined in the description, and the AA generation rate being determined at 295 °C for 5 min using ASTM # F 2013-00, wherein the sample preparation for measuring the vinyl ends concentration and AA generation rate is defined in the description, respectively;wherein said polycondensation catalyst comprises titanium and said catalyst deactivator comprises phosphorus atoms and is present in such an amount that the molar ratio of phosphorus to titanium is at least 0.7 to 1.
  2. 10
A polyester polymer composition comprising polyester polymers comprising alkylene arylate units, said polymer having an intrinsic viscosity (It.V.) of at least 0.72 dl/g, It.V. being determined at 25 °C in 60% phenol and 40% 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane at a concentration of 0.25 g/50 ml using a viscometer according to ASTM D 4603 or ASTM D 5225, a vinyl ends concentration of 2.0 µeq/g or more, and an acetaldehyde (AA) generation rate of 18 ppm or less, the measurement method for the vinyl ends concentration being defined in the description, and the AA generation rate being at 295 °C for 5 min using ASTM # F 2013-00, wherein the sample preparation for measuring the vinyl ends concentration and AA generation rate is defined in the description, respectively;wherein said polycondensation catalyst comprises titanium and said catalyst deactivator comprises phosphorus atoms and is present in such an amount that the molar ratio of phosphorus to titanium is at least 0.7 to 1.
  3. 14
A bottle preform obtained from the composition of any one of claims 10 through 13.
