  1. 1
A method of operating a NAND structure non-volatile memory, comprising:reading a first set of non-volatile storage elements (228, 248) using a first set of read compare values, said first set of non-volatile storage elements (228, 248) being connected to a first control line (WLO) that is connected to a NAND string and that is next to a source select control line (SGS);and reading a second set of non-volatile storage elements (222, 224, 226, 242, 244, 246) that are connected to a second set of control lines (WL1, WL2, WL3) that are connected to said NAND string, that are different than said first control line (WL0) and that are not next to said source select control line (SGS) using a second set of read compare values, at least one of said first set of read compare values is different than a corresponding compare level of said second set of read compare values, characterised in that more control lines are read using said second set of read compare values than are read using said first set of read compare values,
  2. 7
A NAND structure non-volatile storage system, comprising:non-volatile storage elements, said non-volatile storage elements include a first set of non-volatile storage elements (228, 248) connected to a first control line (WLO) that is connected to a NAND string and a second set of non-volatile storage elements (222, 224, 226, 242, 244, 246) connected to a second set of control lines (WL1, WL2, WL3) that are connected to said NAND string and that are different than said first control line (WLO), said first control line (WL0) is next to a source select control line (SGS) and said second set of control lines (WL1, WL2, WL3) are not next to said source select control line (SGS);and a managing circuit in communication with said non-volatile storage elements, said managing circuit causes reading of said first set of non-volatile storage elements (228, 248) using a first set of read compare values and reading of said second set of one or more non-volatile storage elements (222, 224, 226, 242, 244, 246) using a second set of read compare values, at least one of said first set of read compare values is different than a corresponding compare level of said second set of read compare values, characterised in that more control lines are read using said second set of read compare values than are read using said first set of read compare values.
