    Claims of equivalent WO 2007095612 A2 WE CLAIM:.1. A method for delivering a therapy to terminate a tachycardia event;comprising: sensing cardiac signals and detecting the tachycardia event in response to the sensed cardiac signals;s delivering a first plurality of pacing pulses m response to the detected cardiac event;determining a return cycle length generated subsequent to the delivery of the first plurality of pacing pulses;determining whether the return cycle length is less than or equal to a cycle length o associated with the tachycardia event;and adjusting delivers- of a second plurality of pacing pulses in response to the return cycle length being less than or equal to the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event.

    A medical device for delivering a therapy to terminate a tachycardia event, comprising:an electrode to sense cardiac signals and to deliver the therapy, the therapy incrudi n.g a first pi urali ty of pacing pul ses;sensing circuitry, electrically coupled to the electrode, to detect the tachycardia event in response to the sensed cardiac signals;and a processor to control delivery of the therapy, wherein the processor determines whether a return cycle length generated subsequent to the delivers- of the first plurality of pacing pulses is less than or equal to a cycle length associated with the tachycardia event,, and adjusts delivery of a second plurality of pacing pulses in response to the return cycle length being less than or equal to the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event.

    A medical device for delivering a therapy to terminate a tachycardia event, comprising:an electrode to sense cardiac signals and to deliver the therapy, the therapy including a .first plurality of pacing pulses;sensing circuitry, electrically coupled to the electrode, to detect the tachycardia 25 event m response to the sensed cardiac signals;and a processor to control delivery of the therapy, whereia the processor determines whether a return cycle length generated subsequent to the deliver)- of the first plurality of pacing pulses is greater than or equal to a sum of a cycle length associated with the tachycardia event, and a total prematurity associated with the first plurality of pacing so pulses, and adjusts delivery of a second plurality of pacing pulses in response to the return cycle length being greater than or equal to a sum of a cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and a total prematurity associated with the first plurality of pacing pulses, 30. The device of claim 32, wherein the processor adjusts the number of pulses included in the second, plurality of pulses to correspond to decreasing the cycle length of one pulse of the first plurality of pulses. 35. The device of claim 32, wherein the processor adjusts both the cycle lengths and the number of pulses included in the second plurality of pulses to correspond to decreasing the cycle length of one pulse of the first plurality of pulses. 36. The device of claim 3 L wherein the processor estimates a transit time, corresponding to a distance between the electrode and a reentrant circuit associated with the tachycardia event, as being one half of the total prematurity. 37, A method for delivering a therapy to terminate a tachycardia event, comprising: sensing cardiac signals and delecting the tachycardia event in response to the sensed cardiac signals;delivering a first plurality of pacing pulses in response to the detected cardiac 5 event;determining a return cycle length generated subsequent to the delivery of the first plurality of pacing pulses;determining whether the return cycle length is greater than a cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and less than a sum of the cycle length associated io with the tachycardia event and a total prematurity associated with the first plurality of pacing pulses;and adjusting delivery of a second plurality of pacing pulses in response to the return cycle length not being greater lhan the cycle length associated with the tachycardia a\>ϋnt arid less than the sum of the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and the total X5 prematurity associated with the first plurality of pacing pulses. 38, The method of claim 37, further comprising determining a transit time corresponding to a distance between the electrode and a reentrant circuit associated with the tachycardia event. 39, The method of claim 38, wherein the transit time is determined as one half of a difference between the return cycle length and the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event. 25 40. The method of claim 40, further comprising determining prematura ties corresponding to each pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pulses, wherein the total prematurity corresponds to a sum of the determined prematurities, and the minimum number of pacing pulses is determined as a ratio of the transit time and the prematurities. 43. The method of cl aim 42, wherein the rati o corresponds to twi ce the transit time relative to the prematurities. 44. The method of claim 42, wherein determining prematurities comprises: determining a cycle length of each pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pulses;and determining a difference between the cycle length of each pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pulses and the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event. 45. The method of claim 44, further comprising increasing the determined prematurity of at least one pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pulses. 46. The method of claim 44, further comprising increasing the determined prematurity of a last pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pulses. 47. A medical device for delivering a therapy to terminate a tachycardia event, comprising: an electrode to sense cardiac signals and to deliver the therapy., the therapy- including a first plurality of pacing pulses;sensing circuitry, electrically coupled to the electrode, to detect the tachycardia event in response to the sensed cardiac signals;and a processor to control delivery of the therapy, wherein the processor determines whether a return cycle length generated subsequent to the delivery of the first plurality of pacing pulses is greater than a cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and less than a sum of the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and a total prematurity associated with the first plurality of pacing pulses, and adjusts delivery of a second plurality of pacing pulses in response to the return cycle length not being greater than the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and less than the sum of the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and the total prematurity associated with the first plurality of pacing pulses. s 48. The device of claim 47, wherein the processor determines a transit time corresponding to a distance between the electrode and a reentrant circuit associated with the tachycardia io 49, The device of claim 48, wherein the transit time is determined as one half of a difference between the return cycle length and the cycle .length associated with, the tachycardia ©vent. 50. The device of claim 50, wherein the processor determines prematurities corresponding to each pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pϋises, wherein the total prematurity corresponds to a sum of the determined prematurities, and the minimum number of pacing pulses is determined as a ratio of the transit time aid the prematurities. 53. The device of claim 52.. wherein the ratio corresponds to twice the transit time relative to the prematurities. 54. The device of claim 52, wherein the processor determines a cycle length of each 3 o pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pulses, and determines a difference between the cycle length of each pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pulses and the cycle 3i length associated, with the tachycardia event as the prematurities. 55, The device of claim 54, wherein the processor increases the determined prematurity of at lea k st one pacing pulse of fee second plurality of pacing pulses. 56, Hie device of claim 54, wherein the processor increases the determined prematurity of a last pacing pulse of the second plurality of pacing pulses. 57, A method for delivering a therapy to terminate a tachycardia event., comprising: sensing cardiac signals and detecting the tachycardia event in response to the sensed cardiac signals . ;delivering a first plurality of pacing pulses in response to the detected cardiac event;determining a cause of the delivered first plurality of pacing pulses failing to terminate the tachycardia event as a result of one of a failure to capture the tachycardia event a failure to complete peelbacL and a failure to entrain a reentrant circuit associated with the tachycardia event;and adjusting delivery of a second plurality of pacing pulses subsequent to the delivery of the first plurality of pacing pulses in response to the determined cause. 58. The method of claim 57, wherein the determining a cause comprises: determining a return cycle length generated subsequent to the delivery of the first plurality of pacing pulses;and determining whether the return cycle length is less than or equal to a cycle length 5 associated with the tachycardia event. 59. The .method of claim 57, wherein the determining a cause comprises: determining a return cycle length generated subsequent to the delivers ' of the first plurality of pacing pulses;and io determining whether (he return cycle length is greater than or equal to a sum of a cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and a total prematurity associated with the first plurality of pacing pulses. 60. The method of claim 57, wherein the determining comprises;XB determining a return cycle length generated subsequent to the delivers' of the first plurality of pacing pulses;and determining whether the return cycle length is greater than a cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and less than a sum of the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event and a total prematurity associated with the first plurality of 20 pacing pulses. 61. The method of claim 57, further comprising determining a transit time corresponding to a distance between the electrode and the reentrant circuit associated with the tachycardia event. 62. The method of claim 61, wherein the transit time is determined as one half of a difference between the return cycle length and the cycle length associated with the tachycardia event.
