13 claims: 3 independent, 10 dependent

  1. 1
An apparatus (4900, 6300) for obtaining synchronization in an electronic system transferring digital data at a high rate between a host device (202) and a client device (204) over a communication path (206), the apparatus (4900, 6300) configured to have at least two Acquiring Sync States synchronization states (4902, 4906), and at least two In-Sync States synchronization states (4908, 4910, 4912), wherein a condition for shifting from an In-Sync State to an Acquiring Sync State (4902, 4906) is detecting the presence of an invalid CRC value in any of a series of packets and wherein one condition for shifting between two Acquiring Sync States (4902, 4906) is detecting the presence of a synchronization pattern in the communication link and wherein one condition for shifting from an Acquiring Sync State (4902, 4906) to an In-Sync State is detecting the presence of a sub-frame header packet and valid CRC value at a sub-frame boundary.
  2. 7
A method for obtaining synchronization in an electronic system transferring digital data at a high rate between a host device (202) and a client device (204) over a communication path (206) using a state machine (4900, 6300), the state machine (4900, 6300) configured to have at least two Acquiring Sync States synchronization states (4902, 4906, and at least two In-Sync States synchronization states (4908, 4910, 4912), wherein the method comprises:shifting from an In-Sync State to an Acquiring Sync State (4902, 4906), if the presence of an invalid CRC value in any of a series of packets is detected and shifting between two Acquiring Sync States (4902, 4906), if the presence of a synchronization pattern in the communication link is detected and shifting from an Acquiring Sync State (4902, 4906) to an In-Sync State, if the presence of a sub-frame header packet and valid CRC value at a sub-frame boundary is detected.
  3. 13
A computer-readable medium having instructions for carrying out a method according to any of claims 7 to 12.
