  1. 1
A system for transporting paper to prevent stubbing within a printing machine, comprising:a paper path (100) that has a first end (104) and a second end (106) and a width defined by a first wall located in opposition to a second wall that facilitates transport of one or more sheets of paper from the first end to the second end;a first entry point (110) located between the first end (104) and the second end (106) that allows one or more sheets to enter the paper path in succession;a first nip (128) that is adjacent to the first entry point (110) that directs the leading edge of the one or more sheets away from the first entry point;a second entry point (108) located a distance from the first entry point (110) that allows one or more sheets to enter the paper path;a second nip (126) that is adjacent to the second entry point that directs the leading edge of the one or more sheets away from the second entry point (108);characterized in that the paper path (100) can act as an inverter for sheets entering at the second end (106) from a duplex path of an image marking machine (122) of the printing machine, and comprises a gateless diverter (116) that directs the one or more sheets of paper through the paper path, the gateless diverter including a convex section (114) that is adjacent to a concave section (112) to divert a leading edge of each of the one or more sheets fed from the second end (106) away from the second entry point (108) and the first entry point (110), wherein the one or more sheets of paper transported from the first end to the second end are advanced to the convex section (114) via the first nip (128) and advanced through the concave section (112) to the second nip (126).
  2. 4
The system according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the center of each nip (128, 126) is located off the center line of the paper path to direct paper in a particular direction.
  3. 5
The system according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the gateless diverter (116) includes a plurality of concave sections (112) and convex sections (114), each concave section is adjacent to a convex section and each convex section is adjacent to a concave section.
  4. 6
The system according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the first entry point (110) and the second entry point (108) each include a ramp (216) that is a recessed portion of the side wall of the paper path that is shared with the entry point.
  5. 7
A system according to any of claims 1 to 5, wherein:the first entry point (110) is located at an angle to the paper path to allow one or more sheets of paper to enter the paper path in succession;the convex section (114) is adjacent to the first entry point (110) to direct the leading edge of the one or more sheets fed from the send end away from the first entry point;the concave section (112) is located between the convex section (114) and the second entry point (108) to direct the leading edge of the one or more sheets of paper fed from the second end away from the second entry point;and further comprising: a ramp (216) that is located adjacent to each of the first entry point (110) and the second entry point (108), wherein the ramp is a recessed portion of the side wall of the paper path that is shared with each of the first entry point and the second entry point.
  6. 8
The system according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the first entry point (110) is coupled to a multiple sheet inserter.
  7. 9
The system according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the second entry point (108) is coupled to a paper feed platform.
  8. 11
A method for transporting paper to avoid stubbing within a printing machine, the paper transporting being along a paper path (100) that has a first end (104), a second end (106), a first, a second and a third transport nip (128,126,130), and a first and a second entry point (110,108), the method comprising:receiving a sheet of paper into the first end (104) of the paper path, the sheet of paper has a leading edge;advancing the sheet through the paper path via the third nip (130) to the first nip (128), wherein the third nip and the first nip each include at least one pair of rollers;directing the leading edge of the sheet away from the first entry point (110) via the first nip (128), the first entry point is located on the side of the paper path;advancing the sheet past the first entry point (110) through a convex section (114) and a concave section (112) of the paper path, wherein the convex section is located adjacent to the concave section;and directing the leading edge of the sheet away from a second entry point (108) via a second nip (126), the second entry point is located on the side of the paper path;advancing the sheet past the second end (106) to an image marking engine (122) of the printing machine characterized in that the method comprises further the steps of entering the sheet at the second end (106) from a duplex path of the image marking engine (122) of the printing machine, directing the leading edge of the sheet away from the second entry point (108) and the first entry point (110) via the concave section (112) and the convex section (114), as the sheet passes the second and first entry points (108,110).
