  1. 1
An air conditioning system for use in a vehicle (102) having an engine, comprising:a primary air conditioning loop (104) including a belt-driven compressor (108), the belt-driven compressor (108) operable when the engine of the vehicle (102) is operating;and an electrically-driven compressor (106) coupled to the primary air conditioning loop (104), the electrically-driven compressor (106) operable when the engine of the vehicle (102) is not operating;wherein the belt-driven compressor (108) is disabled when the electrically-driven compressor (106) is operating and the electrically-driven compressor (106) is disabled when the belt-driven compressor (108) is operating;and characterized in that the primary air conditioning loop (104) is separated into a high pressure coolant loop (150) and a low pressure coolant loop (152) by a heat exchanger (148).
  2. 4
The air conditioning system of any preceding claim, wherein the electrically-driven compressor (106) is operably coupled to a controller (146), the controller controlling the speed of the electrically-driven compressor (106).
  3. 5
The air conditioning system of any preceding claim, wherein the primary air conditioning loop (104) includes a cab evaporator (114) in thermal communication with a cab interior (128) of the vehicle and a sleeper evaporator (132) in thermal communication with a sleeper interior (130) of the vehicle.
  4. 6
The air conditioning system of any preceding claim, wherein the low pressure coolant loop (152) includes a pump (156) and at least one evaporator (114,132), the at least one evaporator (114,132) in thermal communication with an interior (128,130) of the vehicle.
  5. 7
The air conditioning system of any preceding claim, wherein the low pressure coolant loop (152) includes a coolant heater (158).
  6. 8
Th air conditioning system of any of claims 1 to 7, wherein the primary air conditioning loop (104) includes a condenser (110), and wherein the air conditioning system further comprises an electrically-driven air mover (144) for moving air over the condenser (110) when the engine is not operating.
  7. 9
The air conditioning system of any of claims 1 to 7, further comprising a no-idle condenser (160) coupled to the electrically-driven compressor (106) and the primary air conditioning loop (104), the no-idle condenser (160) being operable when the engine of the vehicle (102) is not operating.
  8. 12
The air conditioning system of any of claims 9 to 11, wherein an electrically-driven air mover (144) is disposed proximate the no-idle condenser (160) for moving air over the no-idle condenser (160) when the engine of the vehicle (102) is not operating.
  9. 13
The air conditioning system of any preceding claim, wherein:the primary air conditioning loop (104) includes an evaporator (162);and the air conditioning system further comprises a secondary air conditioning loop (164) operable when the engine of the vehicle (102) is not operating, the secondary air conditioning loop (164) sharing the evaporator (162) with the primary air conditioning loop (104).
