  1. 1
A method of network analysis comprising:storing (S4-1) network data defining a plurality of nodes and a plurality of links between said nodes, wherein said network data defines a network comprising a number of sub-networks of nodes more interconnected by links to other nodes in the same sub-network than to nodes which are not in the same sub-network;associating (S14-1) each of said nodes with co-ordinate data;updating (S14-3) said co-ordinate data so as to cause the co-ordinate data of connected nodes to identify co-ordinates closer together and to cause co-ordinate data of nodes which are not connected to each other to identify co-ordinates further apart;utilizing said co-ordinate data to identify (S4-5) links providing connections between sub-networks of nodes;and outputting (S4-8) data identifying nodes associated with links providing connections between sub-networks of nodes.
  2. 2
A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein said utilization of said co-ordinate data comprises:determining (S14-7) for each of said plurality of links a length value based on the difference between co-ordinate data associated with pairs of nodes corresponding to a link;and identifying links associated with length values greater than a threshold value as links providing connections between sub-networks of nodes.
  3. 3
A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein said utilization (s4-5) of co-ordinate data comprises:determining for each of said plurality of links a length value based on the relative co-ordinates associated with pairs of nodes identified by each said plurality of links;and wherein outputting (S14-8) data identifying nodes associated with links providing connections between sub-networks of nodes, comprises: determining the average length value of links associated with a node;and outputting data identifying nodes for which the average length value of links associated with the node is greater than a threshold value.
  4. 4
A method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising ordering said output data utilising length values determined for links associated with nodes based on the relative co-ordinates associated with pairs of nodes identified by links.
  5. 5
A method of manufacturing a therapeutic drug comprising:obtaining (s2-1) proteome data for an organism to be targeted by the drug therapy;performing network analysis (s2-2) in accordance with any preceding claim wherein said data defining a plurality of nodes and a plurality of links between said nodes comprises data corresponding to proteome data for the organism to be targeted wherein said nodes are associated with proteins and said links are indicative of protein interactions;identifying as one or more target proteins, proteins corresponding to the nodes identified by the output data, output as a result of performing the network analysis;identifying (s2-6) one or more compounds which react with one or more of the identified target proteins;and manufacturing a therapeutic drug containing compounds identified as reacting with the identified target proteins.
  6. 6
Information processing apparatus (2) comprising:a data store (10;14) operable to store network data defining a plurality of nodes and a plurality of links between said nodes, wherein said network data defines a network comprising a number of sub-networks of nodes more interconnected by links to other nodes in the same sub-network than to nodes which are not in the same sub-network;an association module operable to associate each node defined by data within said data store with co-ordinate data;an update module operable to update co-ordinate data associated with nodes by said association module so as to cause the co-ordinate data of connected nodes to identify (S14-3) co-ordinates closer together and to cause co-ordinate data of nodes which are not connected to each other to identify co-ordinates further apart;an identification module (24) operable to utilize said co-ordinate data associated with nodes by said association module as updated by said update module to identify (S14-8) links providing connections between sub-networks of nodes;and an output unit (18) operable to output data identifying (S13-10) nodes identified by said identification module as being associated with links providing connections between sub-networks of nodes.
  7. 7
Apparatus in accordance with claim 6, wherein said identification module (24) is operable to:determine for each of said plurality of links defined by data stored in said data store (10;14), a length value based on the difference between co-ordinate data associated with pairs of nodes by said association module corresponding to a link;and to identify (S14-7) links associated with length values greater than a threshold value as links providing connections between sub-networks of nodes.
  8. 8
Apparatus in accordance with claim 7, wherein said identification module (24) is operable to:determine for each of said plurality of links defined by data stored in said data store, a length value based on the relative co-ordinates associated with pairs of nodes by said association module identified by each said plurality of links;and said output unit (18) is operable to output data indentifying nodes associated with links providing connections between sub-networks of nodes by: determining the average length value of links associated with a node;and outputting data identifying nodes for which , the average length value of links associated with the node is greater than a threshold value.
  9. 9
Apparatus in accordance with claim 7, further comprising an ordering module operable to order said output data utilising length values determined by said association module for links associated with nodes based on the relative co-ordinates associated with pairs of nodes identified by said links.
  10. 10
A computer readable carrier carrying computer implementable instructions which when executed by a programmable computer cause the programmable computer to become configured as an information processing apparatus in accordance with any of claims 6 to 9.
