  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2007024694 A2 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:1. A vending machine for producing orthotics to optimize pressure distribution on a person's feet when the feet supports the weight of the person, the machine comprising: a measuring apparatus being contactable with the underside surfaces of the person's feet to measure a height contour and a pressure distribution of the underside surfaces of the person's feet when the person's feet supports the person's weight;a computer in communication with the computer being operative to receive the measured height contour and measured pressure distribution of the underside surfaces of the person's feet from the transducers, the computer having a program operative to calculate a thickness and a hardness of the orthotics to optimally redistribute the pressure on the underside surfaces of the person's weight based on the measured height contour and the measured pressure distribution;and an orthotic fabricating apparatus in communication with the computer, the orthotic fabricating apparatus being operative to produce the orthotics in accordance with the calculated thickness and hardness.
  2. 2
The vending machine of Claim 1 wherein the program of the computer is operative to calculate a thickness and hardness of the orthotics for a plurality of regions of the underside surfaces of the person's feet based on the measured height contour and the measured pressure distribution.
  3. 3
The vending machine of Claim 1 wherein the orthotic fabricating apparatus is a milling machine.
  4. 4
The vending machine of Claim 1 wherein the orthotic fabricating apparatus comprises an entry port and a fabricating section, the entry port having a center railway for receiving a rail of an orthotic blank to align the orthotic blank to the fabricating section.
  5. 5
The machine of Claim 1 further comprising:a user interface for displaying instructions to guide the person in vending the orthotics from the vending machine;wherein the computer is in communication with the user interface and is operative to transmit the instructions to the user interface.
  6. 6
The machine of Claim 5 wherein the user interface is a display for displaying the transmitted instructions and for displaying the measured pressure distribution of the underside surfaces of the person's feet.
  7. 7
The machine of Claim 6 wherein the measured pressure distribution is color coded.
  8. 8
The machine of Claim 4 wherein the rail is received into a groove of an upper gripper to align the orthotic blank to the fabricating section.
  9. 9
The machine of Claim 4 wherein the rail is received into a groove of an upper roller to align the orthotic blank to the fabricating section.
  10. 10
The machine of Claim 1 wherein the fabricating apparatus comprises a machining platform, an orthotic blank to be machined being aligned to the machining platform via a rail of the orthotic blank which the rail is receiveable into a groove.
  11. 11
The machine of Claim 1 further comprising a communications port in communication with a server via a wide area network and the computer for transmitting the sensed data to the server.
  12. 12
A measuring apparatus for sensing a pressure distribution on an underside surface of a person's foot, the apparatus comprising:a) a pressure measuring device disposable under the underside surface of the person's feet for measuring pressure;b) a plurality of threaded probes, top surfaces of the probes collectively forming a platform such that the person may stand on the platform;c) a support plate having a plurality of threaded apertures for receiving the threaded probes wherein the probes are threaded into the apertures;d) a stepper motor engageable to the stud for rotating the probes into and out of the threaded apertures, the platform being configurable based on the unique contours of the underside surfaces of the person's foot;and e) a computer in electrical communication with each of the pressure sensors for receiving sensed pressures, the computer being in electrical communication with the stepper motor for recording a configuration of the platform.
  13. 13
The measuring apparatus of Claim 12 wherein the computer records the number of turns the stepper motor has rotated each of the probes in a memory for determining the configuration of the platform.
  14. 14
The measuring apparatus of Claim 12 wherein each probe comprises a polygonal shaped cap rotateably engageable to a threaded stud, sides of the caps being disposed in abutting contact to sides of adjacent caps to prevent rotation of the caps when the studs are rotated into and out of the threaded apertures.
  15. 15
The measuring apparatus of Claim 14 wherein top surfaces and sides of the caps having conductive material disposed thereon to form an X - Y electrical pathway matrix which is in electrical communication with the computer.
  16. 16
A method of providing orthotics to a person, the method comprising the steps of:a) providing an orthotic vending machine at a retail store;b) measuring pressure distribution on underside surfaces of a person's feet at the retail store with the orthotic vending machine;c) fabricating the orthotics at the retail store with the vending machine;d) delivering the fabricated orthotics to the person at the retail store.
  17. 17
The method of Claim 16 wherein the measuring step comprises the steps of:i) instructing the person to step onto left and right platforms;ii) vertically raising a plurality of probes until pressure distribution on the underside surfaces is sub-tailor neutral;and iii) sensing a pressure with a pressure sensor mat and a height.
  18. 18
The method of Claim 16 wherein the fabricating step comprises the steps of:i) milling an orthotic blank.
