  1. 1
A color shifting pigment flake (220) comprising a magnetic core (180, 222) comprising a magnetic layer (182) having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a side surface, a first dielectric layer (184) on the top surface of the magnetic layer (182), and a second dielectric layer (186) on the bottom surface of the magnetic layer (182), wherein the side surface of the magnetic layer (182) is absent of a dielectric coating;characterized in that it comprises a first absorber layer (224a) for absorbing light on the first dielectric layer;and a second absorber layer (224b) for absorbing light on the second dielectric layer;wherein the first dielectric layer (184) is made of a first dielectric material and the second dielectric layer (186) is made of a second dielectric material different from the first dielectric material so that the flake (220) exhibits different colors on each side thereof.
  2. 6
A color shifting pigment flake (220) comprising a magnetic core (180, 222) comprising a magnetic layer (182) having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a side surface, a first dielectric layer (184) on the top surface of the magnetic layer (182), and a second dielectric layer (186) on the bottom surface of the magnetic layer (182), wherein the side surface of the magnetic layer (182) is absent of a dielectric coating;characterized in that it comprises a first absorber layer (224a) for absorbing light on the first dielectric layer;and a second absorber layer (224b) for absorbing light on the second dielectric layer;wherein the first dielectric layer (184) has a first optical or physical thickness and the second dielectric layer (186) has a second optical or physical thickness different from the first, so that the flake (220) exhibits different colors on each side thereof.
