  1. 1
A method for processing signals in a mobile device (102) of a communications system, the method comprising:scheduling signals within different frequency ranges communicated from a first antenna (504) of the mobile device (102) and a second antenna (503) of the mobile device (102) to use different timeslots in a TDMA frame;dynamically tuning the first antenna (504) to a frequency band corresponding to one of said different frequency ranges for a first communication protocol, and dynamically tuning the second antenna (503) to a further frequency band corresponding to a further one of said different frequency ranges for a second communication protocol, comprising performing slow antennas hops, wherein a slow antenna hop comprises the steps of: starting (800) the slow antenna hop for a corresponding one of the first antenna (504) and the second antenna (503) by configuring a corresponding one of match filters (502) for a present center frequency, wherein said match filters (502): comprise suitable logic, circuitry and/or code that enable dynamically tuning a corresponding one of the first antenna (504) and the second antenna (503) to a particular center frequency, and are configurable so that the corresponding one of the first antenna (504) and the second antenna (503) is optimally matched to a particular RF signal used by a corresponding one of said first communication protocol and said second communication protocol;tuning (802) the match filters (502) to the present center frequency, and receiving a signal from a desired channel;measuring (804) a signal strength of the received signal to determine a signal integrity of the received signal;comparing (806) a value of the signal strength of the received signal to a pre-determined signal strength value, and, if the value of the signal strength of the received signal is greater than or equal to the pre-determined signal strength value, continuing with a first determining step, otherwise continuing with a second determining step;wherein the first determining step comprises determining (808) whether the present center frequency is part of a list of valid center frequencies for the desired channel, and, if the present center frequency is not part of the list of valid center frequencies, adding the present center frequency to the list of valid center frequencies for the desired channel, and in any case continuing with a reconfiguring step, wherein the second determining step comprises determining (810) whether the present center frequency is part of the list of valid center frequencies for the desired channel, and if so, deleting this center frequency from the list of valid center frequencies for the desired channel, and in any case continuing with the reconfiguring step;wherein the reconfiguring step comprises: reconfiguring (812) the match filters (502) to antenna hop to a next center frequency, where an antenna bandwidth for the next center frequency overlaps with the antenna bandwidth for the present center frequency;and continuing with measuring (804) the signal strength of the received signal.
  2. 9
A system for processing signals in a communications system, the system comprising:a mobile device (102) comprising: a first (504) and a second (503) antenna;match filters (502);one or more circuits that is adapted to: schedule signals within different frequency ranges communicated from the first antenna (504) and the second antenna (503) to use different timeslots in a TDMA frame;dynamically tune the first antenna (504) to a frequency band corresponding to one of said different frequency ranges for a first communication protocol, and dynamically tune the second antenna (503) to a further frequency band corresponding to a further one of said different frequency ranges for a second communication protocol ;comprise a configuration to perform slow antenna hops, wherein a slow antenna hop comprises the configuration to: start the slow antenna hop for a corresponding one of the first antenna (504) and the second antenna (503) by configuring a corresponding one of the match filters (502) for a present center frequency, wherein said match filters (502): comprise suitable logic, circuitry and/or code that enable dynamically tuning a corresponding one of the first antenna (504) and the second antenna (503) to a particular center frequency, and are configurable so that the corresponding one of the first antenna (504) and the second antenna (503) is optimally matched to a particular RF signal used by a corresponding one of said first communication protocol and said second communication protocol;the slow antenna hop further comprising the configuration to: tune the match filters (502) to the present center frequency, and receive a signal from a desired channel;measure (804) a signal strength of the received signal to determine a signal integrity of the received signal;compare (806) a value of the signal strength of the received signal to a pre-determined signal strength value, and, if the value of the signal strength of the received signal is greater than or equal to the pre-determined signal strength value, execute a first determining functionality, otherwise execute a second determining functionality;wherein the first determining functionality comprises means to determine (808) whether the present center frequency is part of a list of valid center frequencies for the desired channel, and, if the present center frequency is not part of the list of valid center frequencies, means to add the present center frequency to the list of valid center frequencies for the desired channel, and means to execute a reconfiguring functionality, wherein the second determining functionality comprises means to determine (810) whether the present center frequency is part of the list of valid center frequencies for the desired channel to, and if so, delete this center frequency from the list of valid center frequencies for the desired channel, and means to execute the reconfiguring functionality;wherein the reconfiguring functionality comprises means to: reconfigure (812) the match filters (502) to antenna hop to a next center frequency, where an antenna bandwidth for the next center frequency overlaps with the antenna bandwidth for the present center frequency, and continue to measure (804) the signal strength of the received signal.
